That's if the 9500ci's leds are in fact blue and not with or a light blue ;) . Any one able to pop the cover off, power up and confirm?
The 9500ci's LED display is very nearly the same shade of deep blue as the display cover. Also, LEDs emit their radiation over a rather narrow bandwidth. Thus a red display cover over the blue LED display would simply make the display to appear to be an extremely dim magenta blue.
Are you saying that the STi-R display does nothing when you plug it into a 9500ci and then power up the 9500ci? Note that you can NOT hot plug the display modules since the display will then never receive the "clear display" code which clears the display upon power-up. Anyway, I take it you have tried the STi-R display with the 9500ci and vice versa.
Pulling off the front tinted display cover merely reveals the display case plus the front surface of the LED display's built-in clear plastic cover. You have to unsnap and remove the display module's rear cover in order to then see the circuit board and the entire display module. Note that once the display module's rear cover is removed, then the display board and LED display will simply drop out of the rest of the case. ESD precautions must be observed or you could accidentally fry the chips on the display circuit board.

This is what it looks like mounted in a mirror. This is without the blue lens.
Pulled over by a Sheriff, no.
