9500ix newbie

I think the implication is that I could say that I never received the package and possibly get another 9500ix free .

The problem is that I've already registered it so they know I got it. :)

I called this morning and was told how to send in my trade in detector, a Uniden RD9XL. I was also told I can buy the ESP package anytime within the initial warranty period (1 year).

The bike mount will be a challenge. I don't have a lot of bar space and I have a dark smoke windscreen on the bike.

The bracket in the middle is for the GPS. I'll just have to work with things and see what works.

Unbelievable! Well I'm glad you got it ok and I'm pretty sure not many if at all would just "drop" a pkg down but then again you never know :rolleyes:

I live in CRapid City, SD and our UPS does it by the book thankfully with knocking and ringing the doorbell with pen in hand...

Thanks. I just started using it today during my commute. I'm very impressed. I now have to get a mount and power cord for my wife's SUV.

It's been a while since I've last used a radar detector. I had a close (too close) encounter on Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah Nat'l Park in Virginia on the bike and on the way home from the vacation I did get a performance award courtesy of the Ohio State Patrol. I got the ticket driving the wife's SUV. That's when I decided that I need to be proactive.

The ix was more (way more) than I wanted to spend, but the satisfaction that it does its job extremely well and peace of mind is worth it. Of course I know that, as a driver, I have to do my part but the 9500ix is a very good tool.

Yo will be amazed at what you learn here and the ix wil almosr become secondary in your defense against tickets.

The mirrors are actually spring loaded and the posts flex quite a bit.

However, I am seriously looking at the Techmount fairing mount that screws into the mirror stud on the inside of the fairing. I have to take some measurements and if I decide to use it I will probably have to Dremel out some of the fairing but I think I can make it work.

I would like to keep the 9500ix inside the upper fairing behind the windscreen. It would be more protected and easier to wire.

I feel the windscreen being so tinted would greatly reduce laser sensitivity if that’s important to you.

Maybe I'm being naive but the bike doesn't have much frontal area and I have two 90mm diameter headlights. I don't think there's much surface area to reflect the beam back. This isn't the best pic:

I could try to fabricate a mount that goes under the mirror base and comes up along side the mirror. That would have the added benefit of adding a little height to the mirror which might allow me to see more than my elbows.

I'm going to take a hard look at things Saturday and see if I can come up with something.

PS - By the way, I passed an officer shooting laser this morning on my way to work. No alert at all from the 9500ix. Of course I was in the far left lane and he was sitting in the emergency lane. It was a 4 lane section of the highway.

lol wellll i know you're joking but........ If you did UPS would say we had a confirmed drop off etc. and then it would become a legal matter because it would be assumed stolen there for being theft and the police would have to get involved. Not a good idea :p

The bike would be difficult to hit in comparison to a car. Laser on any RD isn’t that good, but if you can mount it with a clear view you will at least know when your getting a direct hit, and hopefully because your bike is harder to get a reading than a car it will give you that edge needed.
