Re: AutoLearn issue & lies.
All this AutoLearn speculation reminds me of a story:
Once upon a time, a young lad was born without a belly button. In its place was a silver screw. All the doctors told his mother that there was nothing they could do.
Like it or not, he was stuck with it . . . He was screwed.
All the years of growing up were real tough on him, as all who saw the screw made fun of him. He avoided leaving his house. . . And thus, never made any friends.
One day, a mysterious stranger saw his belly and told him of a monk in Tibet who could get rid of the screw for him. He was thrilled.
The next day, he took all of his life's savings and bought a ticket to Nepal.
After several days of climbing up steep cliffs, he came upon a giant monastery.
The monk knew exactly why he had come. The screwy guy was told to sleep in the highest tower of the monastery and the following day when he awoke, the screw would have been removed. The man immediately went to the room and fell asleep.
During the night while he slept, a purple fog floated in an open window. In from the mist floated a solid silver screwdriver. In just moments, the screwdriver removed the screw and disappeared out the window.
The next morning when the man awoke, he saw the silver screw laying on the pillow next to him. Reaching down, he felt his navel, and there was no screw there!
Jubilant, he leaped out of bed . . . . And his butt fell off.
The moral to this story is:
'Don't screw around with things you don't understand--
You could lose your ass.'

I would agree that it would be nice if Escort put out more technical details on the RD. A lot of people who pay this much money for a little black box would like to know more about how it works. That is understandable because a malfunction could result in a very expensive ticket. I also understand that Escort does not want to give away any trade secrets. I think a balance could be reached without giving away so much info as to compromise their secrets. But we in the forums may be just a small minority who have a greater interest in the product than most of their customers. Therefore, I would not hold my breath waiting for Escort to satisfy our collective curiosity.

Good story. :D
I totally agree, Escort could still give some technical information about AutoLearn without giving away preparatory information.
I’m a little mad at Escort because i have been communicating closely with them about the AutoLearn issues. The auto unlocking at different speeds wouldn’t have been a big deal to let out of the bag. Instead I had to take the riddles they gave me and test to come up with a conclusion.
Re: AutoLearn issue & lies.
First, thanks for all the testing and persistence.
So, what is the bottom line?
It will alert you if you make several passes above ~35mph -- essentially "unlocking" it?
Under 35mph it won't "unlock" it?
"Unlock" meaning it can alert you, but will never show "Unlocked" on the unit.
For the record, I've never seen "Unlocked" (9500ix).
I've also had "Stored" messages with no indication, audible or visual, in areas where I've previously had lockouts -- like it re-stored a location (spinning sat).
I think you mentioned that it is not a big deal for < 35mph, but I think it is -- it should be consistent.
Anyway, thanks again :-)

AutoLearn Bottom line:
1- AutoLearn will only unlock signals that are no longer present after ~5-6 passes of no signal. Those passes must be above ~35mph to enable AutoLearn to unlock. (there is no notification of Un-Lock, it will just notify you the next pass)
2- At ~35mph and below AutoLearn does not unlock. This is to decrease the amount of locking and re-locking of falses.
Note: AutoLearn will review locations that were auto locked for any changes in the radar signal on every pass. However manual locked out locations are exempt from being reviewed by AutoLearn.
AutoLearn can store a signal without notification on occasion, I have personally witnessed this. Most times it was near a previously locked out area though.

Funny how the above seems to be somewhat true now.:D
