Well, having your RD mounted really close atop your dash does allow it to get really hot when you park your car. Not only does your RD have to absorb direct sunlight, but it also has to absorb heat which is radiated from the dash directly underneath it. This is one reason why a lot of people prefer to mount thieir RD's up high and just a bit below the tint strip at the top of the windshield. Another reason, of course, is that a RD which is hardwired and mounted up high is much less noticeable to a thief.

Wow thanks so much. You are a big help. So mine and any other people with the 2007 x50 radars are fine it just needs an update? I will probably be sending it in right away. Does the 59.95 charge also cover the update? I had a feeling there was an update or something. As long as it's fixed I'll be happy.

Yours will need a minor repair, but it also will be updated too. And then, the tech person will also test your X50 to be sure that it passes their sensitivity tests on all radar bands and laser as well. Rest assured, once Escort fixes the issue, then your X50 won't have this problem again. So, when you think about it, when you get your X50 back it will perform just like a current and brand new X50 radar detector.

Not bad, huh? The only pain is having to be without your X50 for up to 10 days to two weeks. On the other hand, its just like Christmas when it comes back! I was all giddy when my STi came back after being flashed with the beta audio ramp-up firmware which I tested for Bel. I dropped everything, got in my car, and went for a long drive to test it out. Man, that was fun! :D

Thanks again so much. So what radar do you have? An sti? does escort make that? Also i have mine hardwired do think the shop that i went to that hardwired my radar can take the wire and put the radar higher on the windshield like other people do.

They'll throw in a new smartcord and mount/suction cups too. Not a bad deal for $59.95 considering your RD will perform like new again.

You are most welcome! I have a Bel STi and an Escort 9500ci. Bel/Escort are the same company. Hopefully the installer didn't cut off any excess cable from your hardwire kit. They should be able to slightly redo the installation so that you can have your X50 mounted higher up on the windshield.

The bastards will try to hustle me to buy another wire lol. Also you are saying they will give me new suction cups and the normal wire or a hardwire? Yesssssssss also is the 9500ci the laser jammer one???? so coooooollll

Hopefully the installer wrapped up all of the excess hardwire cable, allowing him to have enough cable for redoing the cable run to the top of your windshield. A lot of times Bel/Escort gives you a new coiled smartcord and a new bracket and suction cups when you send in your RD for service. Its their way of saying "thanks" to their customers and to make up for the inconvenience of being without your RD for a while. Yep, the 9500ci is the one which also includes the ZR4 laser shifters.

oh damn! that radar with the jammer is crazy. I'm guessing you have a fast car. Oh btw I haven't been in my car for a few days cause i've been sick so when I was in it today the radar is working properly. any ideas? So I'm not sending it back until it starts saying service required or something. I'll hopefully have it mounted higher up asap.
