Expert Meter

Personally I'm like DJ, I use Spec Mode exclusively. However, according to the poll results a lot of you like the Expert Meter, so I'm trying to understand how you use it and what features you like about it. So here are some additional questions for you guys:

The 9500ci offers four - count 'em, four - meter bars for X-band in Expert Meter mode, plus 2 bars for K and 2 for Ka.

Do you find the ability to track up to 4 X-band signals to be genuinely useful? Do you actually look at those teensy-weensy little signal bars? Or do you mostly just look at the band information?

OTOH, the STi-R equivalent to Expert Meter is the "Threat Display" which replaces the little bars with decimal digits 1-9. It seems this would be easier to read at a quick glance. It's not clear from the owner's manual, but it appears that the Threat Display can only track a single source in each band; is that correct? Do you consider the Threat Display less useful than the Expert Meter because of this?

Spec mode works well for me, I look for changing frequencies to determine how many threats I have. I tried expert mode but I cant see that well. Hmm maybe time for glasses.:eek:

I really like Expert meter. The Bogey counter on my V1 is easier to read, but all you know is the total number. If you squint real hard you can tell what bands they are on, but if you've got a 4 on the bogey counter and K and KA blinking you don't know which ones are where. With Expert meter I can tell at a glance which bands have how many signals.

I c an't wait for Escort to put togeather Spec and Expertmeter (Spec mode on a single, automatically switching to Expert Meter on "Multiple Signals detected".

Spec mode is very useful around here. I don't really like expert mode.

when you know which frequency theyre using its pretty helpfull , when i see 35.5 its braking time:p spec mode all the way

I totlly disagree with you. The way the V1 works is, it flashes if K or Ka is the strongest band and you have both visual indicators to alert you with X,K and Ka bands. It also overrides a weak signal with the audio tones unlike the escort, Ka always overrides a K band alert.

The problem with expert mode is, it will not show 2 bogeys with police K band and falls frequency if it is in the 24.150 which is mostly what is used. Same problem with truelock. The truelock and expert mode work side by side - they work with the same technology. So if you have say 2 stalker radar guns being operated, escort will only show 1 bogey and the V1 will show 2 bogeys. That's the difference with V1's bogey counter and escort's expert mode.

I only use spec mode for the same reasons as others have posted.

My S7 will show 2 radar guns (on the same freq.) running side by side but mehhh... you can think as you wish.

I personally choose spec mode all the time my fav.I miss my rx65 i used to have wit spec mode.All i got to do is look at the freq and thats that. I feel the old style way wit ka coming up and freq bar goes up is old these days.

I mainly prefer Expert mode because of how it works with Voice Alerting. I already used Spec mode to know what is used where, so its not necessary anymore. Though it would be nice to have both at the same time.

The main advantage with Expert mode and the 9500's is its very obvious when there is an additional threat and it will notify you verbally of "Multiple Frequency’s detected".
1- I will know when there is an additional threat and what band at the same time if its difrent.
2- Better/obvious verbal confirmation.
3- Also knowing what TrueLock is seeing when it comes to how many alerts (frequency is less important due to not knowing what other frequency’s its locking).

My V1 may flash the band that is the biggest threat, but it still doesn't tell you what they are if you have more than 2. Add the ghosting issue and if in the City I find that the V1 is difficult to use for target identification. If you have X, K, and KA all on with K blinking and a total of 5 on the bogey counter what do you do? With Expertmeter I may see 2 X, 1 K and 2 Ka signals which to me means MUCH more than the V1 tells me.
