Good point, Jag. I forgot to consider that. Still, it would have to have major improvement. Let just say the Rev C was 30% better than older revisions and we will compare A/B and C against Stalker Ka (34.7 Ghz)
Quote:
34.7 GHz Ka: 9500ix: 1968ft (over 3x) - Pro 78: 586ft
A generous estimate of an improvement of 30% brings it's theoretical detection to 762ft (assuming my math is correct) then lets say Ka MAX improves 34.7 detection another 30%. That brings detection to about 1000ft. In that case the 9500ix is still doubling the Pro 78 SE in raw detection. Now those numbers are VERY sketchy but it proves the point that the Pro 78 SE would have still have a ways to go to roll with the big boys (V1, 9500ix, STi) so let's not assume too much about the SE. It's a solid detector though. (I wouldn't mind one myself)
:)
i think 2-3 db's would average more than 200 ft. :) In flat terrain or here in the plains im willing to bet my REV C can deliver V1 performance on 34.7 Ka. But only if the LEO is facing me using I/O or C/O. I ran my brothers V1 over a year ago. Mike B and Veil guy have even mentioned that a Whistler can flirt with High end RD's.
It would because we're talking GOL testing. GOL use foam to cut down how far the radar transmits if I'm not mistaken. I would be disappointed if in real life I only got 2000ft detection on a straight road.
Re: I bought the 9500ix today
I remember that one. What if that was a Whistler? I have detected I/0 4 miles away from a sloppy DPS.

The Whistler would not have detected this LEO near as far as my 9500ci did, guaranteed! I promise you that your Whistler is not as good as you think it is.
I probably have 30 or so detections total in the couple of weeks that I've used this SE and the 9500ci has alerted first on every single encounter, usually by alot. About a third of them, the Whistler never alerted. The weak alerts on my 9500ci, the Whistler never sees. About 2/3 of them, I never identified the LEO, usually because of walls or hedges in the middle of the freeway.

Again, your location makes that believable to me (lucky). Here in Middle Tennessee we have hills, ridges, and curves to deal with along with that good ole southern humidity. I've picked off moving opposite direction C/O Ka over a hill, and around a curve over a mile away (which is decent in my case).

To you that may not seem much but its all about perspective.

I think
sniper4usmc lives here in SoCal. If so, he's probably more than safe using the autolearn, since he won't see any X band and his K band encounters will probably be few and far between.
DJ is right.I am from SoCal.
I curretnly have X and K Off my whistler RDs

Well apparently there is some (very little, but some) K usage, so it might be wise to turn that on since it isn't supposed to change the performance of Ka. I was thinking about turning K off on my 8500 when it arrives, but I was talked out of it for this reason.

Which is the almost scary but true point. 4 miles is damn good for any detector... what would/could a CI do?
