He was using I/O so I am sure that was part of it.
Was the radar antenna facing your direction? Or was it aimed off-axis?

Ramp up is one of those personal preference type things, and keep in mind the phrase was made up/invented on this very forum.
I happen to like a strong initial Ka alert. I hit the brakes hard for any Ka because it's a cop 99% of the time. Perfect example is in the canyons where it's hard to get any sort of great detection range ... I don't want a weak blip from an off axis signal which has bounced off a few rock walls already. My best Redline save so far was where it screamed Ka, I hammered the brakes and a cop came off a 90 degree corner 2 seconds later. No way any other detector would have screamed full volume Ka at me before I saw that cop. When my Redline alerted, the cops gun would have been pointed across the road ahead of me (radar shooting East, me traveling North) ... I just caught scatter off trees. It saved me from not only a high speed ticket, but I was literally just about to dispose of a slow car by passing on double yellows. Throw in a double fine area and I saved about $1,200 because of the Redline's so called crappy Ka ramp up.
Yeah, it would suck if you live in Nebraska and you get a full bar Ka alert for 11 miles on some mind numbingly straight road through the cornfields, but that's what the mute button is for.

The Redline is winning the battle so far. V1 and Redline will win range but 9500 will eventually become much quieter than the other two.

You're right that's a good example of where its needed. And I do the same brake when I get an alert so I don't mind it too much either. Just remember radar doesn't work from the side.

The LE was sitting off the road in a parking area just to the right of the road facing south. I was traveling north and actually saw him long before I even receieved the small warning.

His antenna could have been aimed across the road in which case you would not get much of a warning. He could have been just doing paper work or having a doughnut break.:D Keep in mind that if the antenna was aimed across the road, at a 90° angle to your direction of travel, the radar will not be able to read your speed.
