Default Can't update my new Escort 9500ci

This is a re-post from my errant Welcome post. Please excuse. My bad. I'm a newbie on this forum.

I've had this detector installed in my 2006 Z4 3.0si for about 2 weeks. Knowing that I needed to update the unit, I finally pulled out my laptop and downloaded Detector Tools ver.1.7 last week.
I heard about the updated version so I downloaded ver 1.8.1 Saturday.
I pulled out all the instructions from all the docs I got in my box. NO Instructions for the download/update to the unit.
So, OK, I'm thinking , just go to the website. There will be tons of info there.
    NOTHING!!!!!

So, I go ahead and try the update without any real instructions. I'm not a Microsoft SE or anything but I can hold my own with computers and networks, etc. Win XP
    Nothing but errors.
I registered my unit with Escort last week so they know my serial number.
Why does the unit NOT recognize my serial number?
Why does the error feedback on my laptop then tell me my correct serial number in RED?
When I click on the ridiculously large green update button, (after it finds the detector and makes the handshake) I get a simple error with no explanatory error codes or anything.
The simple error message says, "Error. Can't update." or something like that.

Needless to say, after spending a couple thousand bucks on this unit, I get extremely mad when I get crap errors like this.
It shouldn't be this hard. It's REALLY frustrating when I see forum messages from others who have "no trouble at all". But those may not be 9500ci units. Don't know.
But is Escort really that lazy that they can't write a decent set of install/download/update instructions?

And to top it off....Their whole customer service department doesn't work on weekends so no help until Monday morning. Not even email.
I tried "instant chat" on Sunday. That really pissed me off. I clicked on the "chat" icon. It opened up so I wrote my request for help. Rather lengthy but I wasn't real mad at that time.
When I clicked "submit", guess what happened?
    Blip.
    Nothing.
The box closed with no explanation or anything.
It was at that point, that I dove into the website and read where the customer service depart was only available M-F 8-5!

Now , that really started the foam flowing from my mouth. I'd much rather have heard the circular babble logic from a foreigner in an asian call center than a help chat box which just goes away.
That's what I call customer service!

Have you try uninstall Tool ver. 1.7 and then install 1.8?

Did Windows XP detect a device and install drivers? Also try plugging in the detector to the pc before turning on the detector.
