    Default I got Instant-on Owned :(

    K-bank Instant-On hit by the OPP (near 2:09 mark). I run an Escort Redline.
    The officer had her lights on so quickly; felt like I was clocked before my detector even went off.
    This really makes me feel unprotected.
    Anyone have similar encounters?

    Tough break,guy !
    You never had a chance w/ her coming over that rise & also partially obscured by the lead vehicle. I/O is always lethal unless:

    1. Never run above PSL w/o a rabbit ahead of you.
    2. On the "twisty-turnees" & especially w/ hills as you had there, it's always best to ease off some to avoid an ambush like that.

    That's a LEO who obviously has mastered the Art of Trolling very well, indeed. The damn disco lights were on before she even got to you.

    With your video and radar detector you can go in and challenge this...
    With the moving, car in front, you can throw enough shade and doubt
    on it to get it thrown out. Get a lawyer. Also if you have a clean record.
    The video is pretty powerful. However....

    I assume you were doing the legal limit and the radar gun was off,
    due to other car and calibration issue with LEO radar gun.

    You could take your video and time it to show you were going legal limit?
    It is worth a try?

    Looks like you were doing 1 power poll per 2 seconds from 2:10:48 to 2:11:00
    Looks like you were doing 1 power poll per 2 seconds from 2:10:48 to 2:11:23
    (you want to split hairs and get 1/10th's of seconds, I just looked at the video counter.)

    Feet per Second = Distance between polls in feet / Time from video = FPS
    MPH = FPS x 0.681818

    Example polls are 100 feet apart and it took 2 seconds

    FPS = 100 feet / 2 seconds = 50 feet per second (FPS)
    MPH = 50.0 FPS X 0.681818 = 34.09 MPH<<<<<

    Typical poll spacing is 125 feet to 300 feet, based on this and two seconds,
    speed is approx. If polls are 125 feet apart you were doing 42 MPH. I'm guessing
    being rural polls are 175-200 feet apart? 59 mph to 68 mph. Change time to 2.1 seconds
    you can take about 3 mph off. If you can prove the radar is way off, you can get it thrown out?

    HAVE YOU SET UP YOUR RED LINE TO REACT FASTER.

    You want to turn off X band.
    You want to segment your Ka bands to bands: 2, 5 and 8 only (older Redline needs updated software)
    You want to turn off all the other bells and whistles: POP, SWS, TSR
    However instant on is hard to deal with unless you get a hit from some other victim.

    You do realize that Radar Detectors are Illegal in Ontario Canada.

    That video is of no use.

    To the OP.

    I personally would take that video down. There have been/are OPP officers on this site.

    You're asking for trouble IMO.

    All, thanks for the input.
    Redline is setup to react faster with band seg., X-band-off, etc
    I do intend to challenge the ticket, so I've made the vid private for now.
    Will update the outcome.

    I'm too late to see the video, which is okay, but I'm surprised to hear of OPP running moving I/O. Do you know the radar gun type or exact frequency? Was it definitely I/O or could it have been simply blocked and uncovered by the traffic and hill situation? I've been relatively sedate the past few years, keeping it to 120 kph on ON freeways most of the time (been paced and passed up by OPP on 416, so 120 definitely fine) and 130 on the 401 (per unconfirmed advice that's within current tolerance), but simply haven't encountered any I/O yet. I understand they're looking for the big one (50 over?), so perhaps they're just saving the I/O for those close to that. FYI, sometimes OPP will drop the speeding ticket and issue just an RD ticket if you volunteer that you were using an RD and let them confiscate same (unlike QC, no returns allowed in ON so I guess it's a sort of trophy).

    On the 400 series on higways in Ontario you will encounter , Laser (Laser Atlanta mostly) , Some Airplane enforcement and 80% C/O K band radar. Decatur Genesis. Once get get out of the greater GTA your chances of encountering I/O increase. It's on our secondary highways in rural settings where the OPP use a lot of I/O K band. The younger officers (male and female) are actually getting quite lethal with the I/O.

    On the whole I have found the OPP to be using I/O more and more.

    The times they are a changing. FYI

    I question the logic of giving up a 600$ Cdn RD 170$ ticket and 3 points to dodge a speeding ticket. The max fine is 350$ unless you hit the 50+ threshold and then you are into the dreaded stunting charge. The RD ticket used to be treated as an admin ticket by some insurance companies so that potentially could be a plus but personally I'd take the speed ticket and avoid the Rd ticket on my record

    That's why I love owning a 600hp car. I have no problem putting the pedal to the floor so I don't have to deal with their crap.
