Congrats on your first LI jam after all that time. Pity how it had to be in such circumstances though, i.e. you wondering if the LI malfunctioned or if it was just dirty with road grime etc.
After that long a wait, I would much rather a clear cut first encounter/save myself also.
I would reckon that it was the road grime though. I did a fair bit of driving over here at the weekend and the roads are still messy after the winter snow here so I did have to clean my LPP heads quite often. Any time I stopped to go do something, I checked them and they were always covered in it. Not too badly but it could be just enough to catch me if I were unlucky.
The Red spot is not that great for an install location. There is some crap in the way and the grille slats are not level. Plus every time you close the hood you risk putting them out of level when you do get the LIs in there. I used to have a single AL head in the center of the rings and it was just ok - I kept on having to re-level it all the time, until I made a custom bracket at the shop and got an aftermarket grille without the 4 rings.
Mine are currently in the green location and it seem to be working for the last 2 years or so quite well. Never has a PT more than 40 Feet during testing with the LA, Truspeed or UL.
Its a little tricky to make sure they are pointing perfectly straight down the road. The only minor problem is that the heads to stick out a little and upon investigation you can pick them out fairly well pretty well, even on a black b6.
If your instinct says PT, I would trust that instinct & modify and re-test.
However, even IF PT was the case, I would say this was indeed a successful event. You received valuable data generated by a real world encounter in regards to your LI setup. This type of data typically costs others that deploy counter measures money and points in the form a citation.
However, to remain positive, something to consider to explain the short targeting time is on several occasions, I have seen LEO's that target my vehicle while speeding and be defeated (usually at shorter range), stop targeting me after only a few seconds and examine their LIDAR
unit.
Best of Luck.

He was parked in the median, perpendicular to traffic flow, nose out, so he was shooting out the lowered passenger side window. Therefore, I couldn't actually see him or the gun to see if he'd lowered it or was looking at it. I also don't know the actual jam duration, as I checked the LED as I was approaching PSL getting ready for JTK, and at that point the LED was steady.
Since the LI voice alert keeps going through its motions even after jamming stops, and the Redline's laser alert also lingers for a while, I didn't have any audio indication that he stopped shooting (well, the V1 likely stopped sounding, but in the heat and noise of the moment I didn't notice). Now I'm wishing I had a video camera setup in my car.
Being my first real-life laser hit in close to 2 years, and the first ever with the LI, my reaction time was on the slow side. From the time the alert started to the time I reached PSL (and noticed the steady jammer LED) was probably close to 5 seconds. It was right before then that I spotted the cruiser too and was getting closer to him so he could have stopped shooting due to angle as well.
I'm not counting this as a save per se since I was likely under his threshold at the time. I was behind someone at the time so I was probably doing <10 over. Now if I'd been doing 80+ when shot and he didn't come after me, I would count it as a save (and successful jam). I'm just going on the worst-case scenario of getting a PT, especially since my heads were dirty.
Next time I can get together with someone to test I will, if spring ever arrives.
I also want to build a device that will measure the jam duration, jam-to-brake time, and total time. And add a video cam to my car.
