so... is this still gunna happen?
The area is a complete mess after hurricane Ike. Only about 500,000 people have power in houston out of 4.1 million right. Gas shortages and food shortages throughout the entire city. Most of the homes up in this area were hit very bad, we had the eye of the storm go right through this area and also had a tornado rip through this point. Most of the homes have trees inside the home, a complete mess.
Due to the conditions in Houston and the surrounding area we have delayed this laser jammer test until further notice. Sorry to dissapoint everyone but with the shortage of gas and all the recovery efforts going on here in Houston, feel that it would be best for everyone to reschedule. I myself have suffered damage to my home and car from the storm as well.
Will keep everyone updated once the city calms down and returns back to normal to reschedule this event. Hope everyone can understand.
damnthat sucks....
Hope everything gets figured out soon! One of my friends that was going to UH is displaced :-/ so i know how bad it must suck
I think this is a good call. I was disappointed that I couldn't make it myself, but I'll be able to make a future re-schedule. Might have me a frickin' laser gun by then too!
Good luck to you guys down on the Gulf! I used to live where you're at, so I know it's tough times.
He is not kidding when he says Houston is a mess. I came from Florida with 3 tow trucks to haul generators from Louisiana to Texas everyday for FEMA..It is awfull!!! I have seen a lot worse cities but Houston is bad. I hauled some generators over near Galviston and all I can say is "Good Lord"! My heart breaks for these people.
The worst problem is the freaking power outages. Lots of streetlights are still out a week after the storm. This means long long long waits on major streets around Houston.
Gas is a PIA to find without lines. I've been lucky to find a local Shell that operates late at night so I try and fill up then. I usually only have a two or three car wait.
Some of the people I've worked with have been without household electricity for a week already. Some folks like my ex-wife spent the storm and a few days afterwards in Austin (which was untouched) but now most people have to go back to work electricity or not. My ex is working 12 hour days right now because she can't stand going home to a black house.
I've had power since Tuesday but no cable or internet. Fortunately I spent a couple of days out of town so I got kind of caught up.

My friend from UH wrote an article about the no gas situation and was saying how his buddy used e85 to escape the city. its a good article and is prob going to be picked up by a few magazines
