I recently testing my LIs where there was a hill, less than 700 ft from the shooter, and he had a good 3-4 second before my jammer heads were seen and I was JTG/JFG every time with the Marksman 20/20 and PLII. I'm guessing something else.

That's my strategy, as well, which is why I finally mounted my front plate after running 5 years without one. Even if it doesn't draw their LASER fire, I figure having a front plate is one less excuse for a cop to pull me over for a fishing expedition.

So you're saying I could mount LI heads like this and still get good protection?

The headlights would be a problem in my opinion with the heads mounted so close to the plate.

While were on this, does anyone have a full technical analysis of the Gen 8 LI heads? Such as bubble radius, how the bubble works, etc etc etc..?

Cliff or Ivan, but I doubt they will say.

Wow, LI troll #1 right there....
To the OP, I just recently picked up an E60 5 series. I mounted my LI Gen 8 heads vertically in my kidney grills on the outer most slates with bubbles up. I have tested my setup with my Laser Atlanta and it is JTG all day. While it is JTG with my gun, I can't say for sure it will be with other guns, but so far it seems to work for me.

No. My theory was in regards to orientation, not placement. You still have to stay close to your vulnerabilities.
However, that said, apparently I was mistaken about the diode orientation. I could have sworn that the Gen 8s weren't horizontal like the previous gens were, but they are. So, unless you have the HP, you do still have to worry about orientation.

Op I've been in your shoes and you have 2 choices. You either want the LI's to be 99% functional or you wanna maintain the cool look. Unfortunately you've learnt the hard way that looks is not the important factor, especially when we are heavy footed.
I've been where you're at this moment, so let me save you some time. Also, look at what I've done to mine and this is after over hundred hours of testing.
This past Thursday I was saved twice as I was making a trip to DC. My first hit was in MD from a Leo at around 500ft or less straight ambush style around a turn. He was on the inner side of th apex of the turn sitting perpendicular shooting his PL3 on cars coming around what is a fast sweeper corner. I was doing xx in 50. The 2nd was in DC and crazier. Coming off a highway with a 55 limit doing xx onto a fast exit with a 45 limit from another PL3. He was outside his car which was parked parallel to the exit road about 900~1000ft down, standing 'literally' on the side of his car with his right leg on his mud guard, right elbow on the top of his cruiser and he lit me up!
The moral of the story is that it might
not be pretty but it works! Our cars are vulnerable due to the poor mount choices. I have big lights and fogs which makes protecting the front difficult and you are in the same shoes.
You will have to use the T bracket to push it under the lights. The closer you can get Otto the corner the better.
Good luck on your final choice and whatever you finalize on, get it tested!
