Default Laser Jamming vs Radar Jamming penalty

I live in California and both Laser and Radar jamming is illegal. I know many people use the laser jammer anyways. I have read several times that no one has really had any issues with it and that if caught its normally a slap on the wrist or minor equipment ticket.

However, I have read that (active) radar jamming can result in much harsher punishment. Is this true and if so why is laser more or less not that big of a deal? Or any overall thoughts/experience with this topic?

    Thanks!

Radar jamming barely works and is not worth it.

Yes its true, radar jamming is illegal under FEDERAL law, and a lot of states have their own laws as well. http://www.guysoflidar.com/usa-radar-jammer-laws.html

The law hasn't caught up with lidar jamming yet. Its only a matter of time.

I say again, radar jamming is not worth it.

The FCC controls radio frequencies, so unlicensed transmitting on governed frequencies is a big no no.

The FDA controls lidar and has essentially said Class I eye safe laser devices can be used for any purpose.

If you can find a product that will Jam Radar then more power to you but if you get caught then they will throw the book at you. So you better ask yourself if it is worth it!

There are a couple devices that will jam radar.
The trick is keeping them in tune. They will fall out of tune from small bumps to the radar horn, temperature changes, etc.
Just get a good detector and watch out for I/O
