Default Good question about Dragon Eye jamming technology. A question we should be asking..

First off I would like to say I am an electrical engineering student that is almost to his associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. Before someone comes in and moderates this just to castrate me.

Here is a logical question from an engineering stance, and my point of view knowing the things I do of computer technology, and circuitry limitations.

    1. How is any lidar jammer ever completely immune to the DragonEye lidar. If the device is field updateable via USB interface also known as universal serial bus connection to any computer nationwide..

What does this mean for you the user who just spent 700+ Dollars on a new lidar jamming device?

    2. You might be immune today but what about tomorrow when that update is released from Dragon Tech?

    3. How is any one jammer better at jamming the Dragon on this level than another?

    4. How can we go around claiming that it's worth the extra 500+ Dollars for Anti Laser Priority when this is a certainty?

Here is a situation. Now please pay attention. Because this could transpire to any one of us on this board.

    1. You've planned a roadtrip out west.

    2. You do your latest updates on ALP.

    3. You leave your home ALP in hand, "Thinking" I have the latest updates.

    4. Your ALP CPU is then reinterfaced with the rest of the hardwired unit in your automobile.

    5. You leave home with a smile on face thinking that everything is grand and any encountered lidar shouldn't be a deal breaker.

    6. As your driving down your development to the highway unannounced to you officer Mike Oconner is checking his email via web at the beginning of his shift.

    7. Officer Mike Oconner notices an email from Dragon Tech inc. from GA.

    8. Officer Mike Oconner opens said email where there is a link to a download attachment for a new update to his Laser Ally lidar software.

    9. Officer Mike Oconner downloads said update.

    10. Officer Mike Oconner plugs in his Laser Ally Lidar via USB serial connection to his laptop in his cruiser and sync's the new software to the lidar unit.

    11. Your driving about 11+ PSL along route I-90 around the Chicago area, when your ALP fails to alert.

    12. You notice quickly the officer is holding a Lidar, that looks like a Laser Ally.

    13. Not 3 minutes later Officer Mike Oconner is tapping at your window asking that famous question, "Do you know why I am pulling you over today?"

Now lets take some things into consideration here ok.

    1. I am well aware of that ALP, Blinder HP-905, and Laser Interceptor LI have usb updatablity as well.

    2. The problem with this updateablity is how are we to know the exact moment a Laser Ally update is released?

    3. The answer I am sure we don't catch them, "Right away."

    4. This is a major problem in thinking that just because you have updateablity your, "Safe."

    5. Also i would presume that unless you have direct access and someone monitoring the releases consistently every day there is going to be a missed update sooner or later. "Not good."

    6. Or what I have personally noticed many companies doing is they update their software once someone receives a ticket and complains. Because let's admit updateing to that level would be highly costly and I highly doubt that's being done.

    7. Also, on this note. Let's consider past instances with Cheeta C50, or Navalert, or even Escorts Trinity database, and Lidar jammers update schedules. They at times can take a month to months to update their databases. This is a vast problem.

Therefore I would be likely inclined to state the following:

"Unless the Antilaser Priority has some new hardware advancement that allows it to generically block any algorithum seen that it needs to jam so that attempting phase shift, or pulse rate variation software is rendered serviceable. It would perhaps not be in the best regard to claim only one unit is capable, or a contender. Rather this unit is simply just as fallible as any other on the market to this type of inadequacy. Likewise unless there is some noted software improvement that is a startling revelation, or hardware revelation in this industry I believe this to be an absolute sales ploy."

Based on the questions you ask, there is much you need to learn. Your questions do not reflect what is happening in the real world and are based on purposeful misinformation.

    Alpine-
You know what? What you need is the perspective of an absolute ignorant newbie.

    Which, coincidentally, would be moi.

My knowledge of BE&E and radars dates back to Viet Nam days, which as a Fire Control Technician (maintaining and operating both search and targeting radars) is so obsolete as to be better off starting with a clean slate. Which I've tried to do, learning from what I dig into on here and searching the internet.

And here's my take on it:

I haven't seen any legitimate guru make the statement that the state of the art laser interrupters and/or otherwise counter measures are infallible. The only people that offer that are charlatan's and snake oil salesmen.

Judge Roy Bean once sentenced a man to 30 years in prison.

"Judge", the man said, "I can't do 30 years!"

"Do as much as you can." answered the judge.

These units are to help you to do as much as you can. For the occasional thoughtless speeder who has gotten too invested in singing "Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" along with the radio and has drifted up 15 mph over PSL, and only does this on the rare occassion, his odds are great that this will give him enough time to back down...hopefully...unless that I/O caught him just right, or that lidar operator was really, REALLY well hidden and the driver never saw him until he was passing him and his Gen XX lidar that just rolled off the assembly line.

For the scoff law who insists on ALWAYS pushing the envelope to through-the-floorboard at every opportunity...well, it's a numbers game. Sooner or later that RD and/or ALP is going to let him down, he's going to meet a "faster gun".

Anyone who categorically promises absolute invincibility from radar/laser detection, promises to pay your ticket...is a fraud.

Don't you see what a game it is? The very same engineers who develop technology to defeat detection IMMEDIATELY start working on technology to beat the technology they just created...it's a nerd thing, it's what they do, it's their Jay Oh Bee.

Jeez...catch an episode of Big Bang Theory...that's who we're dealing with here!

And it guarantees the industries survival, it provides jobs, it's...SUPPLY AND DEMAND CAPITALISM!

    It's all good, Bro...

    Ride safe,

    CR

Bottom line is always going to be a layered defense is always going to be superior. No single countermeasure is 100% effective but using multiple CMs in unison will always be the safest way to go.

But currently, the ALP is about the best you're going to get. The reality is, OFFICER Mike Hunt is not sitting in his car armed with a USB cable ready will and able to update his DET unit. Just doesn't happen in the real world. Plus budgets are so tight that they're not just buying new units and/or subscriptions to update the units.

I get what you're theorizing here, but reality is, ALP is wAY ahead of the curve on this. You make some excellent points though . I just don't see Mike Hunt updating his unit just to defeat an ALP.

It is Mike Oconner, not Hunt. You need to get the facts straight. Because if it were Mike Hunt who really was Mike Oconner, then that is grounds for getting your ticket dismissed!

Better chance of a meteor bouncing of the road, taking out your jammer heads right before your crest a hill doing 85 in a 55 while & a LEO is waiting for you with a prototype lidar that is IACP approved.
