 Can't believe I missed this thread. Escort what exit were you at when you saw the k band hit? I believe between exits 46 to 51 they have some kind of k band highway speed monitor system. So if you saw k band there I would disregard it. I have been wondering the same thing since I can not see anything the sheriff cars are using to acquire speed with, it would be disappointing if it was Kband.
Re: Long Island, NY Radar experiences.
This was actually between exit 55 and 53. I always now drive arond with my radar regardless of speeding. I'm trying to figure out the Sherrif's take on speeding.

I didn't want to be rude, but everyone seems really annoyed by your posts. They really make you look foolish when you say something like "I drive 90 mph+ on the LIE everytime". Lol, what a fool to think anyone would believe you.
Anyways, can't ever argue with a fool...good luck speeding 90 mph+ and risking everyone elses life on the road for being THAT guy.
I've driven with Rob (I was driving my car next to him) and I can say that he is a safe driver and he knows what he is talking about, both of us have been driving the LIE for a while now and know what the deal is. As Rob said NYST do not patrol the LIE although there has been rumor that they may get it within their jurisdiction (so far it hasn't happened). Primarily the Suffolk Sheriffs use PL3 and the Suffolk Highway patrol use Ultalytes (LR-B often). I have seen Radar but it is very rare. On 27 I often encounter IO KA from the NYST, but that is a different road and I don't recommend speeding on it.
I agree with Rob's stated speeds as well; so long as you can jam (like Bob Marley) and have your wits about you you'll be fine.

Re: Long Island, NY Radar experiences.
I have seen some of the highway patrol cars in Nassau running radar, over the years I have seen both Ka and K. I am sure they have laser also, but most of the time I see them they have customers and are not shooting anything (perhaps I've just been lucky).

Thanks for this info. I just haven't visually seen them "shooting" laser. I would assume they would be out of the car when shooting laser or at least have their window open. I am trying to collect more data. I drive in the LIE 44 miles daily (during rush hour). I usually see about 2-3 of them in a 20 mile stretch. They do pull people over; however, not sure if for speeding.
I am sure they are more active early morning and at night. I will do some more driving around these times to see what I can detect.
Re: Long Island, NY Radar experiences.
I've only seen Nassau County use laser once on the LIE about two years ago. Every other encounter I had was Ka.
Re: Long Island, NY Radar experiences.
Nassau county I have had laser and instant-on k-band...too bad for him his hiding spot was marked on trapster so I wasn't at my full cruising speed
