    Default I'm Bummed......

I recently picked up an Escort 9500ix. I wanted it mostly for the wife's car but also thought it would work well on my motorcycle.

The bike already has a Garmin GPS mounted on top of the upper triple clamp so I would need to get creative when mounting the GPS. After measuring and looking at things I decided that I could probably use a Techmount Control Mount but instead of mounting it on a control I could utilize a threaded hole on the front of my upper triple clamp. I ordered one last week and have been eagerly waiting for its arrival.

It arrived today. Yay! I separate the parts and mount the base on the front of triple clamp. I then put the shaft and plate on. When I put the RD on the plate, it's pointing directly at my speedo! WTF?!?

Well, I ordered the TALL Control Mount and was shipped the regular Control Mount. Damn. I'm bummed because I wanted to have it installed before I head out to the Indy MotoGP next weekend. That's not going to happen now.

    I just has to vent.

Ouch, that is painful mate. When will you be leaving to go to it?

I would try to contact the store where you bought it from, and explain the situation, and see if you can either:

Ship overnight on Monday to them, and then have them ship overnight back to you so it should be there in a Wed/Thursday time-frame. (Ideally Wednesday), but have them pick up the shipping both ways (credit your card-back for you paying overnight to them).

Or: Bite the shipping charge back to them, but see if they will ship-out another one Monday (Tall mount). So in other words: They ship another unit out to you, before they even get their other unit back (its their fault after-all). Heck I would still push for them to pay shipping, its ALL their fault (if your printable receipt says you ordered the TALL mount).

Or: Buy another one (TALL) on Monday, and return the one (short) you ordered and wait for them to credit your account back at a later date on the return of the short one, and again explain that its all their fault.

Anyways, its a huge bummer man... but don't worry, enjoy the races!

I'm heading out Thursday morning. I'll call the vendor Monday morning and see what can be worked out.

I can make the trip without the RD, it's just a minor inconvenience.

I'm really looking forward to the MotoGP. I bought the tickets back in November of '07 when the announcement was made.

Trust me man, I understand your pain... it bothers me to no end to ride on the bike without an RD.

Again though, leave the fast riding to the MotoGP riders and you will get there and back just fine without an RD. Have a blast too pal! I certainly see why you are so excited, and I would personally love to go see them.

I went with a RAM mount on mine for the GPS and shopped around for some strong velcro to tuck the RD under the windscreen just above the instruments.

    MotoGP...very sweet!

After looking at things I decided to try something. Instead of separating the base from the post that mounts to the control screws I left them together and used the elongated hole to mount the post to my triple clamp. That gives me some additional height.

I think it will work even though there's only one bolt securing it to the triple clamp. I will take some pics Sunday and get them posted. I will take a ride tomorrow and test how things work.

    Cool Re: I'm Bummed......

Just be carefull, we don't want you to break a perfectly good unit. Hope all goes well. This is makeing me want a road bike just so I can mount a LJ and detector on it . Have fun at the motogp. My old man watches superbikes all the time on speedvision. I have seen them in person at daytona. Fun to watch the ducati's, suzuki's, honda's, yamaha's, aprillia's all go at it for sure.

Since everyone askes about my name, well I guess here you go I obviously ride. Although not on ashphalt. Moto-x Super-x and I flattrack icerace in the winter months Dec, Jan, Feb. Have won a state chapionship, and just missed out on last years to a person that felt the need to cherry pick, or else defiently would have been a 250A rider this year. Almost pointed out to A my first year in the 500 class last winter missed the transfer spot by 3 points. All because of a guy that jumped the start horribly, and nobody felt the need to stop the poorly ran garbage. Oh well always this year.
