welcome
Welcome to the board. Since you have a Cobra, you may want to mount it a little lower than mid windshield so you still can pick up laser. MAKE SURE THE DETECTOR IS LEVEL AND IT IS NOT AIMING TOWARDS THE SKY. To do this it is real simple, you may need to bend the window bracket, so the detector is aimed level or perpendicular to the road. If it is aiming towards the sky, you will NEVER pick up laser. Good luck.

Well
A) Your detector isn't an Emergency Vehicle Detector, nor A COP(LEO) detector.
B) It is merely a Radar/Laser detector.
C) You don't get Strobe alert, because your Emergency vehicles don't emit the special signal that will set off your detector, if you ever get it - I'd be shocked.
D) Read some of the FAQ's and STICKY's in the Radar/General.
And. . welcome.

The strobe alert is supposed to detect the signal of a MIRT emmiter that some emergency vehicles have. It is supposed to turn the stoplights green when they appoach.
I really wouldn't count on that strobe alert. I remember when I used a Cobra from a friend, the thing would alert at the most random times to "emergency vehicle approaching."
Since Cobras are alright at picking up laser, I'd mount your Cobra low, but above the windshield wipers. You'll prolly have to bend the bracket to make the Cobra perpendicular to the road.
Remember, a radar detector is not a cop detector. It is not a ticket to reckless speeding, especially since it's a Cobra. Get to learn it for awhile. See what type of detection range you get, and don't get too overconfident.

Back when I had my Cobra( I know  ), it alerted to almost every emergency vehicle with its strobes on.
The most important thing about mounting is a level clear view of the road. I wouldnt worry about laser so much, I doubt it could alert reliably to it anyway. A high mount (close to rear view mirror) will give you best radar preformance.
Police can turn their radar on and off when they want, when it is off your detector does not detect anything since there is nothing to detect.
But seriously your Cobra is the bottom of the line detectors. If at all possible look into Bel or Whistler products, a decent/good RD will run you about $150-$200, and trust me it is worth it, you get saved once it has paid for itself(ticket, court fees, insurance priemums).

in my area i used to pick up emergency vehicle alerts and train alerts. but i got rid of cobra in less than two weeks and picked up the whistler PRO-73
-
i get plenty of warning when emergency vehicles are approaching with their lights on, and trains too
-
funny thing happened other day.. i was just sitting at parking lot waiting for someone.. suddenly my rd said " train approching".. i was like wat the hell... there wasn;t no rail road anywhere near that area.

probably
Probably a false alarm on SWS.

yeah that happened to me too, i was in a rite aid parking lot and it was going off and on like crazy.. POS Cobras.
