State police from the Mount Pleasant Post are on the watch for drunken drivers, speeders and seat belt violators in Clare, Isabella and along major highways in adjoining counties.
Starting Friday and continuing through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, troopers will target speeders and aggressive and careless motorists on M-115, U.S. 10, M-66 and U.S. 131.
Authorities designed the effort to bring the summer of 2007 to a safe conclusion.
Troopers from the Reed City and Cadillac posts will assist.
The stepped-up patrols are part of a statewide crackdown dubbed "Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest."
In Michigan, motorists face a drunken driving arrest if their blood alcohol content registers .08 percent or greater. A drunken driving conviction carries an assortment of penalties, including court costs and fines, increased car insurance, legal fees and $2,000 in driver responsibility fees.
The 2006 Labor Day weekend produced eight traffic deaths on Michigan roadways, state police records show. Crash investigators confirmed that two of those wrecks involved alcohol. v

Sorry to revive an old thread but I am new here and wanted to share how I got busted by the operation mentioned in the article, how I got interested in laser jamming, and how I eventually found this forum.
Labor Day 2007. I was ignorant of laser capabilities and thought I was protected with my V1. I was wrong. I was cruising south along I-131 between Traverse City and Cadillac in the middle of nowhere. It was early morning, beautiful summer day and traffic was non-existent. I was above the PSL of 70MPH and visually spotted state police with customer along the right shoulder. Brakes were quickly hit but alas another officer got me with laser (never saw him). My V1 didn't catch it either.
It turns out I came across a "wolf pack" of state police that were targeting tourists traveling between Traverse City and Chicago after enjoying the labor day weekend. I was the third or fourth car pulled over (simultaneously) all within about 400 yards of each other. All cars were using laser. Luckily Michigan has low fines for speeding. I think the damage was only $115.
After a lot of reading here I know I'm helpless against laser until I get a jammer. I'll be installing one this spring and will keep you posted on my progress. I've already bought a CB.
