V1 ARROWS????
Okay i was thinking today on how the V1 knows where the band is coming from so this is my common sense telling me this so if some one can give me the facts to this..
Okay i think the V1 arrows work like this it has 2 radar ant. rear and front If the rear ant. gets a signal or stronger signal then the front it will show the rear arrow light up same with the front now the middle or side arrows this is key because there is only one <--> and it doesnt light up right or left just to the sides now how these arrows go off are like this is when both ant.'s get the same or there both at full strangth it shows its to the side ! :)

Now if this is true how come the other RD's cant do this because of what type of patant?

Front and rear antennas are one thing, the directional arrows are another.
The main patent that comes into play here is titled:
"Police radar detectors for detecting radar signals and determining the directional origin of the signal source "
I'm no patent attorney, so I don't know if there are ways around this or not. It sounds like the other detector makers could at least add a rear antenna without violating the patent, as long as they didn't determine the direction of the signal.
It is possible that the other detector makers simply don't want to use a rear antenna because it would raise costs too much, they want to make a detector that the "general motoring public" can afford, while the V1 is aimed more towards enthusiests...

Wow, now that I read it more, maybe dual-antennas are completely off limits if they are in the same housing:
"A motor vehicle radar signal detector for alerting an operator of a motor vehicle to incoming radar signals as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first and second antennas are positioned within a single housing for said motor vehicle radar signal detector. "

Well, the V1 patent is amended here:

And it says:
"The radar detector includes at least two antennas and preferably three or more antennas with detector circuitry shared among the antennas in a single detector housing"
Wouldn't that be sweet though, a detector with a circle of LEDs showing the direction like radio direction finding equipment:

This is for ham radio, and uses only 4 antennas. Maybe we'll see something like this in future detectors.

Cases can be patented btw, for example the Dr. Ing. h.c.f. Porsche Aktiengeschaft has a patent for the shape of the 911...
