Any ideas?
hey guys, I just got in from a 10 mile trip, and was hit with constant K, constant KA, and laser 3 times. Ohio is hungry today....
I am worried that my v1 is not picking up K band from the police cruiser, actually I know its not.
I was coming down the road when my x50 alerted me of a K band, eventually it goes full lit and I see the cop. He is about 30 seconds from my house, so I decided to run home and grab my v1 to test them out on range.
I plugged the v1 in and moved it to the upper right of my windshield, about 3 feet away from the x50. THe x50 alerted to full K, where as the v1 did not make a single peep.
I decided to unplug the x50, trying to figure out if it was interfering. I went by the cop, v1 gave a strength of one blip of KA. My town that i live in does not use KA. I pull a u-turn as soon as the cop went out of view, turned off the v1 and turned on my x50, and it alerted to full K. I did one more run with the v1, and it did not make a sound.
obviously somthing was wrong, so I drove by my normal everyday false spot on K band with the v1, and it alerted like it normally did.
guys.... any ideas? I do have a telephone cord that runs from the v1 to the ciggarete lighter, but I dont think thats the problem since its never done this.
I have all the bands turned on, and all the settings are factory
UPDATE: I went ahead and stopped in to VR today as I was on my way back from kentucky, and they say that it fell out of calibration and needed re-tuned. I decided to go ahead and get the upgrade w/euromode and see if this rumor of it being quiet is true...

Run past the cop with the X50 in the frequency display mode and see what it shows. Either something's wrong with the V1 or its settings, or the cop's radar gun is outside the normal range for K band.
Does it go off when you're near X or K band door openers? If both X and K aren't working, then maybe the LO is out of whack (Ka is a wider band so you can still get detection in Ka with a slightly off-kilter LO).
EDIT: You said it went off with a K door opener, so I'm betting the cop's radar was off frequency. I'd try the X50 frequency display and see what you get.
-
I did think of this, so I ran past on spec display and it showed 24.150 so the radar gun was in whack....
-
What does the X50 show for frequency when you hit the K false? Maybe the false source is off as well as the V1.
I'd give VR a call and see what they have to say. What firmware are you running? What mode was the V1 in?
-
The x50 doesnt false on K band in that area, so I dont know. But when the v1 doesnt pick up a local LEO, somthings up :?
I ran the v1 in A mode after I started running it solo.
I have already called VR, the lady was not very polite to me at all. She said it sounds like there is somthing wrong with the unit and that they would look at it. I asked her about the firmware upgrade from my versipn ( 3.818 ) to 3.819, and she told me that they have received THOUSANDS of calls on this issue, and that they do NOT give the upgrade away to just anyone. She told me, that all the 3.818 units do not have this issue.
I wish I could just call and ask to talk to Mike directly, but I wonder how many people already try to do that...
-
That's why they should have an email address, or a webform where you can email them questions.
Maybe you should just send the unit in and have it looked at. The LO could be out of calibration.
-
Tell her you are part of the 'guys of lidar' who will also be doing a comprehensive testing of the top 3 detectors and you you personally would hate to see the V1 fail on K-band....next time you get lip ask for the supervisor...this is a serious problem does you Target radar tester alert k-band on the V1?
-
you can if you ask.. if they say he isnt available at this time give them or number and ask if mike could contact you back.
if she asks why tell them that your not happy with customer service and you will only speak to mike then obviously they will either put you through or take your number.
mike employs 50 people so i'm sure there are plenty of other people to speak to .
you could ask to speak to a tech as you have a problem .
sounds like some sales woman answered, most of the time they will just say if its not detecting and all factory settings are on then it needs sending in.
it does annoy you when people arent police down the phone when your giving them business.
probibly having a bad day!
it does sound like somethings wrong, really mike should have made a reset mode so that if the computer develops and error then you can reset it.
even my sony headunit has a reset because they go funny sometimes due to the hot operating temps in summer!

This is ridiculous. I'm surprised that they (VR) were rude to you, but I've been reading more and more about VR's customer service. Fortunately, I haven't had to deal with them on anything more than an inquiry about shipping.
I thought Mike V. used to read these boards. It certainly would benefit VR if they had someone monitor the "field" of customers and report back on issues their customers are having. Also, they should get be bending over backwards to keep their current customers. Not complaining that they are getting too many calls re free upgrades.
Thanks for allowing me to vent on Sethy's post.

problem is if they made the firmware properly we wouldnt need free firmware upgrades
this was taken from the v1 manual
