Radar Footprints
greetings all,
i am aware that if 2 vehicles are going down the road and 1 is larger then the other (p-u truck vs. car or smaller car vs larger car) that the smaller "object will "disappear" in the radar footprint of the larger vehicle (more reflected radar back to gun from semi then car or smaller vehicle should show semi's speed, not cars') .
with that as a foundation;
1)... a smaller lead (-pronounced "leed" lol-) car traveling down the road has another vehicle THE SAME SIZE coming up fast on it from behind, which speed will a car mounted internal radar gun record?
2)...... a smaller lead (-pronounced "leed" lol-) car traveling down the road has another vehicle (A LARGER SIZE RV, PT CRUISER, P-U TRUCK) coming up fast on it from behind, which speed will a car mounted internal radar gun of a leo record?

Depends on the equipment, lets just say its your el chepo radar package with no fancy featurs/abilities, then the vehicle comming from behind in both cases speed will be shown...
Now if the radar equipment has the ability to display multipe vehicle speeds, faster speed, the officer will be able to visually descern which speed belongs with which car....
however with an officers ability to properly visually estimate a vehicle speed, go back to the first answer above, and although the radar can only display the larger/faster target, the officer will still be able to ID which car speed he is reading...
thats at least supposedly how its suppose to work... real world the officer just blankets all traffic untill he finds a worthy speeder to pull over.
