Short short warning

So I'm out today and I get a real short Ka warning from my X50. Basically the LEO is sitting on the opposite side radaring oncoming traffic through his back window I guess. I get no warning until I am almost parallel to him then it lasts for quite awile as I am driving away. Kind of scared the you know what out of me. I was doing about 10 over, and like I said he was more or less forward facing with beam in the same direction as me. Is this normal on Ka? here's kind of a picture of the road:

Sounds like it was just bounce since you got plenty of warning before you actually entered the radar zone. Nice adrenaline rush for you though.

Cop could have been shooting out his rear window with a hand-held Ka gun. If the gun is the model which is polarized (I forget which, Jimbonzzz knows) and if he held it gangster style (sideways) then your detection range would plummet.

Well since there was a lot of traffic in the opposite direction I thought I'd get a better warning (bounce from oncoming cars) before I was almost parallel to him...I dont think I got much advance warning at all (1-2 seconds) as I was almost on top of him (although across the road) before the RD went off.

I was actually really watching the RVM and had my hand on the RD to yank it down b/c I thought I was had. But I think he was only concentrating on the opposite side of the road.

I don't think it was hand held b/c I travel this road a lot and I have seen the same car (or similar) moving at me on the opposite side with a Ka signal that I get petty decent range on...

But I can't be sure I guess...

usually when this happens to me with my x50, i get about a 20 yards warning. but when i do get the warning, i canalready see the leo on the opposite side of the road.

That makes sense, you wouldn’t get warning till you passed him. KA is pretty narrow so its hard to pick up in the first place, besides him shooting in your same direction on the opposite side of the divide.

In situations like these its tuff to come up with a solid conclusion, there are too many possibilities. Usually if you have poor detection range like the above so will the LEO, and no ticket is awarded.

I wonder if Ka band, due to its higher frequency and much shorter wavelength, scatters much more after it reflects off of a targeted car. If the signal scatters much more then its return intensity would be a lot less.
