9500i to 9500ix Update Price. Take Action!

I think we should take action and let escort know that we feel a $130 price to upgrade our 9500i's to 9500ix's is too high when considering the difference in cost being only $50.

1. the price difference is $50.
2. the cost of a 3-yr subscription is only $30.

this upgrade should not cost us $130, max: $80.

According to their customer service, Escort may consider adjusting the upgrade price. Escort hopes to make this upgrade available to customers sometime in August, thus it would be in our best interests to write Escort with the above complaint prior to the official availability.

By making the upgrade cost closer to the difference, I would not feel as though Escort was intentionally trying to deceive us or to suck money out of us but that they are trying to help us and keep valuable, committed customers.

you certainly have a valid point about the pricing. i'm going to consider getting the upgrade but for anything over $100 i think is a ripoff especially when you can buy a new one for less than the upgrade price + original 9500i purchase price.

I have sent them an email, including the fact that reselling our 9500i's with the red leds even after the upgrades will get less $$ then the blue 9500ix's that they're putting out now as well.

Why only $80? :confused:

I think the repair of my old 8500 was $75 two years ago when it flashed "Service Required." Was too crazy that it needed service, but I thought it was reasonable and it certainly was fast.

Since your getting a whole new processor - and much faster - and it's probably already mounted on a whole new circuit board as well, I don't think it's that unreasonable. That's about 1/3 of the unit when sold and it probably was assembled in a cheaper labor country anyway. And it's probably bench checked before going out unlike a sample from a production run.

They could do it for $80 if you want them to send it to China, Mexico or wherever they are made and you can wait a month or longer and pay the overseas postage as well. ever ship something overseas lately via FedEx with the fuel surcharge? You'd be shocked and it's more than $130.

I'd count yourself lucky that they even do it for $130 and include a 3-year subscription to boot. Hell, the circuit board alone is probably worth 75% of the unit's cost. That 3 pound box one-way to Beijing, China (for example) from the U.S. is now ~$107 at their cheapest rate (try it one the FedEx site if you don't believe me!). Been through that nonsense already trying to get a laser fixed under warranty made in China. Just not worth it.

Compare it to fixing an out of warranty GPS unit or a digital camera and you'll be very happy Escort is only charging that amount.

They could have just as easily said, "Too bad. Your 9500i isn't upgradable to the new model. Just repairable as it was originally."

How do you upgrade? I looked at escort's site and it only has the $80 rebate option.

Note: This isn't very different from valentine's upgrade feature. The current v1.7 to v1.8 upgrade costs over $200.

You have to call them on the phone to get a RMA number. They'll tell you the price and the turn-around time which is two weeks and get your credit card info. They won't give it to you via email or on the online chat. Their service section does not get them and some email goes to the big spam filter in the sky.

Oh, he forgot to tell me the mod. price as I was inquiring on my back-order (2 weeks) verses sending the old 9500i in (also 2 weeks). He was in sales and not the repair area. I can't win time-wise, so I'll wait it out. :(

Wow! I just put a serial number of a known V1 with version 1.7 and it is $229 plus shipping. :eek:

People better quit whining about Escort's price. It's a little on the cheap side verses V1.

i mean, if you'd rather pay more for your upgrade, that's your deal. i for one don't think we should. and i for one know i'm not alone. everyone should have their opinions and escort should know what they are.

I think the 9500i was like their beta model, and the 9500ix their real deal. the only thing I would want changed is my ramp up, which should never have been a problem in the first place, and the 230' warning on redlight cameras, because obviously, no one needs a one mile warning on red light cams.

it'd be different if it was a radar detector that was fairly old, etc. but it's not.

I do not like the idea of paying $630 for a 9500ix (450+tax for the 9500i +130 for the upgrade) and still think the red light cam fix is necessary to even allow it to work adequately. :eek:

I am pretty certain the units are made in Canada or US, not mexico or china.

are they doing the upgrade yet? I thought it was going to be in August.
