If i were to leave ku band, sws and pop off would i get better detection and or range since it has less to sweep for ? i know that ku has never reached the us aside from the prototypes for research that never made into the mainstream production. does anyone turn on ku band for the "if it ever does im ready" scenario ?
This is a great question and one that has been mentioned quite a few times on the forum. GOL tested some RD's with various combinations of the settings on and off, and they didn't show any worrisome or exciting differences in detection ranges. I certainly would like to see this tested extensively some time in the future, personally. I will admit that I have Ku band on on my RX65 just because I'm curious if the guy will say "Ku band" or not. LOL.Quote:

If I recall correctly when receiving KU band you will get an X band alert.
The only feature that affected certain models was POP mode, and I believe it affected the V1 only.
this is the reply i got from escort: It would not matter if you turned them on. We leave Ku band off because it is not in use in North America yet. Pop is off because it gives you more false alerts. SWS is off because for the most part it was not widely used.

i didnt know sws went bellyup, now i know.
in the year i had my rx65 i had a total of 2 ku band falses and in fact the rx65 does say "ku band".

sws the feature can still be used even though the original company isn't around. However no one uses it anymore, may find it randomly but for all real purposes its gone.
Escorts only alert to X band when receiving a KU band signal.

I know that the 8500 series has been shown to miss "quick trigger" bursts, due to filtering??? One time I turned off X,Ka,laser,POP only to test my X-50 against my Bushnell K-band "quick trigger" bursts and it would alert immediately! On every pull of the trigger. I think that because the Ka band is so wide, it takes up much of the "sweep time". I don't know for sure.
