I have heard a lot about cheap RD brands falsing Ka, mainly those being Cobra. Is there any other brands that false Ka? I know Belscort or V1 don't but does Whistler? Are there particular models of Cobras that false (new, old, cheap, expensive)?
And I sort of know why, but if some has good info of why it would be great to post here.
All detectors (well, almost all) will sweep their LO through a range that can set of Ka, it's a question of whether or not a well-designed detector can filter it out.
The problem with Cobras is that they park on 33.8 for just the right duration to look like a POP transmission, and older models parked on K and Ka also long enough to look like a quick-triggered instant-on burst. The detectors that took aggressive steps to filter this out (Escort) had consequences for their decision (inability to pick up quick-trigger IO)
Whistlers leak Ka only when you have a menu item activated. During normal operation I haven't had any leakage issues with it.
AFAIK Unidens also leak Ka.
whistler does false when you mess with its settings. Usually when you enter the menu from what I know. Also if you have them to close together you can get falsing. If I turn my 955 on with the v1 on in the same car the v1 will pick up a k-band false form the 955.
Interestingly, the V1 often filters out the XTR-690's Ka menu leakage.
