Best place to mount?
I've done some reading and it seems that it's all about the same, with the middle of the windshield being the best place.. yet the most visable. Would you say this is true? I see ppl driving down the road with them on their dashes or right in the middle of the window. I would think the dash method as the worst but not all that visable to LEO. Right in the center of the window makes it incredible visable to would be theives. The thing I hate is the dang coiled cord on the X65. Here is where I put it in the wife's car:

Is it mounted too high?? the cups are stuck where the tint is, but the detector sits just below it.
Also, what's up w/ mounting it on the visor? Is that a real good idea?? It would be more hidden, but I would think not as optimum.
The X65 hardwire kit, but I'm not real keen on how easy that would be to install. Are the instructions pretty clear? I'm going to purchase another X65 for myself, and plan on giving my business to Roy. I guess I could ask him.
Thanks!

Looks good to me.
The hardwire kit isn't bad to install, but if you're really uncomfortable with installing it, anyone that's put in a car stereo before should be able to do it for you.

The hardwire kit is the way to go. I too live in Indiana and could give you a hand with the install if you are not comfortable. I have Hardwired many detectors and they are usually a breeze to install. What part of Indiana are you in?

Hi jpoprock,
Welcome to the board, yes you do need to get that detector hard wired.
If aust3333 is not close to you and can not help you out I will be glad to help you wire it.
I live on the west side of Indy if that is any help to you.

Cool. Thanks for the responses. I live in the Kokomo area. I play almost every weekend in Indy in a band, so I might be able to hook up.
Is hardwire the way to go just so you don't have that clunky cord in the way? Are there any other benefits? I'm pretty sure that is what I'll do. But I noticed Roy sells two diff hardwire kits for the X65. One has the little indicator thingy, and the other is just the hardwire to the fuse box. Which do you guys use??
Thanks!

hardwire is the way to go!
Since I do not have a RX 65 detector I can not give you an opinion on what one to use.
I am sure other users who have that unit can chime in and give thier thoughts!

The only advantage to the one with the indicators is being able to have a more conveniently located mute button. Either one will work fine, it's just a matter of if the mute and indicators are worth the extra money to you.

I personally use the wire kit without the mute button and indicator. It's all about preference. I use the auto mute feature on my RX65 so I did not see the need for an extra mute button. With that being said, the kit with the indicator and mute is $29.95 and the kit without is $10.00. Hope this helps.
