What effect do headlight covers do w lidar?
This might be a dumb thread but ive been curious and never seen a test, what are the punchthroughs effects w headlight covers in the sunny daytime lets say over veiled headlights to help protect lights and jamming effect.. maybe scuffing them painting w flat black primer or veil? i would think it would leave no headlight shots if theres no reflection? http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9...verszw0.th.jpg

^ You answered your question, yourself. :)
I hope that brother alpine will come and chime-in, here, but his vehicle and his initial tests were among those that showed, conclusively, that the "off road use only," nearly-opaque, aftermarket lighting covers can and will significantly cut the effectiveness of police LIDAR.
Re: What effect do headlight covers do w lidar?
ok thats what i thought then thanks man, i wasnt sure if they would reflect back causing no different than not having them, so w a bra no plate or laminated w head covers everything black there's no chance to get a reading really
Re: What effect do headlight covers do w lidar?
For the % they help, it is the same % that light output would be reduced.

I wouldn't go that far. We still get readings on Corvettes with NO headlights or front plates, and they have about the most favourable body profile of all vehicles. You can reduce your profile, but you cannot assure total stealth strictly through passive measures.

Understood, but how easy is it to get a reading on these vehicles? Are they really that much more stealthy? If so, can you quantify?

With no countermeasures A PL3 can get me at 1900 ft.

I am coming to realise how much difference colour makes. A red or white TA or Vette can be gotten at significant distances. A black TA or Vette probably cuts that distance at least in half.
I can't really quantify it, but without a front LP, TAs and Vettes are a challenge to lock.
Thanks to those big, fat extra headlights, Mustangs are easy. :D
