Ok how do I get the governer changed
This just drives me crazy!!!! I do freelance videos of stuff that could make the news. Today there was this huge fire. Now though it is against the law I sometimes will just get in behind an officer or fire truck and get to the scene.
I already know my truck will not go over 93 but today I decided I am going to fix that. I was behind an officer today going to a fire and I was right with him and then bam he just left me sitting there. I was topped out at 93. He had to be running 120 or so. I would catch back up to him in traffic but that was it. I hate this governor.
My truck is a 98 Chevrolet K1500 Z1. 5.7L V8 Vortech. It moves to. At 93mph it is at 1,500 rpm. So, I can put a little more on it. I don't even care if it is 2,500 rpm. I will just limit the time that I run that speed.
So, I am looking at CL with all these Hypertech programmers. Most are the Power Programmer III. But every post I see is different. It will say Power Programmer III for a vette. Next post Power Programmer III for 2000 and up Chevrolets.
So, whats up with that. Do you register them for a certain vehicle and that is all they are good for or are people just saying that is what they used it on? I went to hypertechs website and put in my vehicle and it showed that the power programmer III would work with my truck.
Also I have a buddy that owns a shop. Can he hook the computer up and change my top speed or do I have to have that programmer?

Re: Ok how do I get the governer changed
when i had my 99 old body style chevy truck i had the hyper 3 programmer it adds HP plus lets you set rev limiter and speed limiter.............it made a differents and yes its made for one vehical you download it into the computer under the dash and it loads your computers data on the programmer so that you can put it back to stock when you sell the truck
Re: Ok how do I get the governer changed
a 98 tops out @ 93?? I wonder what my 94 S-10 topped out at, the max on the spedo was 85, but I could go way faster then that, it'd take 5 seconds or more of breaking before the pegged out speedometer to drop below 85. In any event, my truck def. had a govenor, there was a point it wouldn't go any faster, but in my automatic I found a trick you might want to try (don't know if you have auto or manual, it might work in manual to tho, but will prolly own the clutch)
What I would do when the governer topped out is downshift from overdrive to drive while still accelerating and then shift back in to overdrive, this seemed to allow some more acceleration, but it would top out again and reduce your speed a few seconds later, you just have to keep switching the gears until you catch up to what you're trying to.

I drive every day and always hit the governor once a day. Just today I was the Rabbit with 4 vehicles behind me. I finally moved over cause my truck just kept shutting down. Couldn't go any faster. So 3 cars fly by and what is the last one to fly by? A freakin 2000 model or so silverado. I was like that is messed up.
I was reading on a forum and someone said the reason they are governed at 93 is because the tires they put on them from the factory were off road tires. Therefore they set it at 93. Well I am not using off road tires and on top of that the guy I got it from said that he ordered this truck when he bought it with street gears in it instead of towing. This truck has over 250,000 miles on it!!! But I have a new engine it so it runs strong. It's a beautiful truck.

I hate it that you just can't by the hypertech unit and it work. But I guess that makes sense. How would they make any money if you could just pass it around.
I found this one guy who charges $60 bucks and he said he can erase the data on the units. Not sure if he can do that or not.
