AZ ditching Photo Radar...It Has Begun!!

Now hopefully the rest of the state follows suit.:)


PHOENIX -- Photo radar has gone dark in Pinal County. The Pinal County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to terminate its contract with Phoenix-based Redflex Traffic Systems, the company that operates the cameras.

The move also came at the recommendation of new Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who was elected on the platform that he would ban photo-enforcement cameras.

Pinal County's contract with Redflex wasn't set to expire until Feb. 20. Redflex's two mobile speed cameras have not been in operation on Pinal County roads since Babeu took office Jan. 1.

Babeu said putting more deputies on patrol offers the best way to improve public safety, instead of relying on cameras that "can't catch drunk drivers" or stop motorists involved in other illegal or dangerous activities.

Babeu estimated the number of citations issued annually by the sheriff's office would sharply increase as a result of having more deputies patrolling the streets.

The sheriff had previously said that if the board of supervisors voted to keep the cameras, he would place them in out-of-the-way locations with very little traffic.

Thank god it is the start of a great thing

The best places to speed :(.

Of course for speeders this will mean more Lidar and Radar from sneaky DPS, but they cant write 10 tickets in 10 seconds like the photo BS.

An effort to ban photo speed enforcement on Arizona highways advanced Thursday when lawmakers passed a bill out of committee.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted 5-2 to recommend approval of House Bill 2106, which would force the removal of the cameras now installed on Interstate 10, Loop 101 and other highways.
“This was done in the name of revenue,” said Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, who voted for the ban. “It is a speed tax, and it is being done to fund social programs.”"

GREAT! FINALLY, I have been waiting for AZ ditching the cameras ever since... forever.

I live in awhatukee... oh man it is horrible! if you know anything.. like anywhere else.. heading east on I 10 approaching towards exit 143... airport.. all cars go like 50mph.. finally someone with some sense... NO MORE CAMERAS!!!!!111:mad::):D:p:rolleyes:;):confused:

70% of photo tickets are not being paid, HAHAHAHAHA I love it.!!
