AZ photo cameras are taking and storing videos of everyone, speeding or not

Absolutely disgusting. What right does Australian based redflex have to keep videos of me if I am not breaking the speed limit?

Surprised state lawmakers learned Thursday that the photo enforcement cameras they authorized last year to catch speeders are actually taking - and keeping - videos of everyone who passes.

"At the bare minimum, everybody should be made privy to the fact that if you're driving on everybody's highways we're taping you, 24/7, and we're going to hold it for 90 days," he said.

Warriner conceded the videos could, in fact, be used that way if a lawyer could get a subpoena.

"If a judge signs off on that and orders us to release it, we're going to have to release it," he said. But Warriner said such a court order would have to be issued within 90 days of the event or there would be nothing for his agency to produce.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, said what's worse is that Redflex Traffic Systems, the private company hired by the state to set up and operate the cameras, advertises that it has technology that actually can scan in the license plates of every vehicle that passes the cameras. And that, Biggs said, allows creation of a database that can find out where people have been at any given time.

Has anyone in AZ looked at the private investigator avenue? I wonder if redflex needs a PI license for AZ like they do in CA/TX.

I'm really afraid that Redflex and the other companies are going to have absolutely no problem finding starving PIs who will put their licence number on their dirty deeds for the kind of cash they will offer. Those companies have plenty of cash to spend buying PIs, and it won't take long.

An effort to ban photo speed enforcement on Arizona highways advanced Thursday when lawmakers passed a bill out of committee.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted 5-2 to recommend approval of House Bill 2106, which would force the removal of the cameras now installed on Interstate 10, Loop 101 and other highways.
“This was done in the name of revenue,” said Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Gilbert, who voted for the ban. “It is a speed tax, and it is being done to fund social programs.”

I can't wait to see the day that Redflex files for bankruptcy and has to sell their useless cameras as relics on eBay. Bastards are at all the police conventions hawking their wares, and I want to just b!tch slap them.

Really? Wow! That's a LOT higher than I expected! That's probably why the fines are so high. They have to count on thirty percent of the tickets paying 100 percent of their revenue. Welcome to the middle class, arseholes.

True but in order for that to happen they would have to transfer the redflex name TO that PI.

The PI couldn't just represent them independently as a client? He could just sign off on each citation as having gathered and reviewed the evidence, no? For me to practise medicine for someone, I don't have to transfer my licence to them. Same thing with most other professions, I would assume. :confused:

But really, for the money that Redflex could offer, again, I don't think they'd have a lot of trouble finding a struggling PI to do whatever it takes.

No, because of the nature of the business they couldn't just have redflex as a client, because the CLIENT is the one running the investigation, for profit, not the other way around. If that was the way things worked I could open up a PI business, do all the work, and just have some PI sign off on everything I do. Now, if I was an individual employee with a pocket card working under the PI's license, and all the financial transactions were done through his business, then I could have my own clients, but they would technically be the PI's clients, not mine. So the PI would have all the redlight camera contracts and has the power to cut me off at anytime, and employ another individual or "group" of individuals, i.e. ATS and leave me, i.e. RedFlex in the dust. The point is the PI would have complete control over the situation as it's his license and his business that would be issuing the contracts to the city.
