Super Cat mirror radar detector - Japanese product

Hi everyone,

I saw this on another Forum which I frequent (NASIOC - North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club)......

It's from one of their Forum Vendor's sales, but I've abstracted the images and technical information as-supplied, without leading to the Vendor in any way, and I hope that this will allow this post to stay up ( in that it shouldn't violate any conflict-of-interest rules here, I hope :o ), as well as for me to learn something about this device.

I'm not interested in buying one, at all (particularly at their asking price - $300 - as well as for the fact that I just can't give up my Cheetah GPS-Mirror).

Just interested to know what this item is, and how it performs.

Reminds me of the one bel use to make back in the 80's and it was a top performer. anyone remember or got a pic? MEM-TEK remember that one?

What does it do?

I'm no expert but I don't see how it can be a RD. All Rd's have big horns that funnel the radar towards a sensor. I don't see anything like that on this unit. Is it supposed to be a GPS mirror like a Cheetah?

Solar power looks pretty neat!

The one bel made back in the 80's was cool. it looked like a large mirror to the unknowing eye, but had a bargraph style meter and as I recall picked up x and k band.

Cool! Is that the entire unit? My first RD was a Fox (I think) that had the sensor behind the grill and a remote in the cabin. That was in the mid '80's.

Way to go professor.Thats the one... I miss the 80's constant on x-band days when it was pre instant on. You could just haul arse all over and had plenty of time to slow down when you got an alert.... that was the good ole days forsure.

I didn't think think that radar detectors from overseas worked here. Don't they use a different freq.

Those definitely do look at least somewhat different - but I wonder how much of the difference is just cosmetic?

I'm not familiar with Japanese enforcement technology, but yes, that is indeed my worry.

Even though I'm not buying one of the Super Cats that's available from the Vendor, it still peaks my interest, and that bit of technicality was indeed among my concerns (as seen above).

I'm sure no one would have cared. Forum rules don't seem to be respected or enforced any more :dontknow:
