California Highway Patrol seeking volunteers

Sonoma County’s California Highway Patrol office is looking for senior volunteers to take on some roles at the station as well as out in the field.

CHP officials hope to recruit residents 55 years or older to spent a few hours a week volunteering for the state agency, said CHP Sgt. Robert Mota.
This is a first-time program for the local CHP office.
“We are looking for dedicated individuals who want to be able to give back a little to their community,” said Mota.
Officials are looking for 10-20 energetic volunteers who could work at least four hours each week.
“The type of work they would do would vary from clerical to working outside — anything from answering phones, assisting with filing, setting up the RADAR trailer at different locations in the county and assisting with traffic control at special events,” Mota said.
Volunteers also might ride with officers on patrol to help look for speeders and seat belt violators.
Volunteers must pass background evaluations, have a good driving record and attend an informal in-house academy.
