hi hi.. looking to learn more about a good setup..SRX owner
Hi... Name is Derek
Ive been around radar detectors for a while but want to expand my knowledge.
I sell escort products at my BMW dealer but want to learn more about other products and the best way to set them up.
I recently installed a (free to me) SRX on my 2007 GTI. After talking to a few people they mentioned that my front shifters are going to be pretty useless because they are too low. So I came here to try and get some advice on how to set it up to make it the best it can be.
After trying to post images of my setup I guess I cant until I get more post counts.

Welcome to the forum u will learn all u need to know here can't wait to see the install post a link if u have them on photobucket just make spaces so it won't know its a link and that will work for the time being

welcome to the forum. when installing the jammer heads or the radar antennas, make sure they have a clear view of the road with NO obstructions in front of them to ensure optimum performance.

Welcome, Derek. It's cool to see you take an interest in learning about the finer points of the products you sell. We see far too little of that professionalism in this business. This is, without a doubt, the best place to learn, bar none, so you won't be disappointed.
Escort detectors are top of the line, with very little serious competition on the high end, save for Valentine One. The Shifters are pretty low on the list of good jammers though. Even when optimally installed, they're almost useless on anything but a small black car with no chrome or front licence plate. Not sure why, but Escort has totally let that field just pass them by. Lucky for them, their good name in the detector business gets people to buy the shifters anyhow, not really knowing the difference. And as long as they are selling, then why should Escort spend any serious money on developing something new, right? Business 101.

I appreciate the comments and suggestions. My car is far from small and black (as you can see) I dont run a front plate and dont have any chrome other than whats inside the headlights. Are the shifters something that can be upgraded without pitching the system and going with something else? Id prefer to keep a single interface if all possible.

I thought I read from escort somewhere that the radar antennas dont have to be in clear view as long as they arent behind any metal? I mean mine is in clear view but I wouldn't do it again that way if I didn't have to.

those heads are to low I would reccomend cut the main grille and put them as close to the headlights as possible

its says that but test have shown better results with the radar antenna with a clear view of the road

I agree that putting those heads up in the upper grille, as widely spaced as possible, is the only way they are going to be even marginally effective for you. And even then, it's going to be marginal. Them is some pretty big headlights.
Aren't the SRX shifters basically the ZR4? If so, then there is indeed a modification in the works by one of the members here to seriously upgrade them into a formidable performer. For the moment, it's still a work in progress though. When that comes through, it's definitely something you'll want to look in to, if you're set on keeping the system intact.
