Did I mount too high to pick up LIDAR scatter?
I drove into a LIDAR speed trap yesterday without any usable warning from my V1 (3.863) even when there were a couple of rabbits in front of me. I was doing 65-70 vs 55 PSL. The LEO parked his Crown Vic perpendicular to the road using a house as camouflage and pointing his LTI out of the driver side window. I slammed on the brakes when I saw the unmistakable blue Crown Vic state trooper front end sticking out and brought my car to 55-60 without the tell tale hard braking nose dive. My V1 only gave me warning at near point blank range at 500ft or less. I would have drove straight into the trap if I didn't see the Crown Vic's front fender. My question is did I mount my V1 too high to pick up LIDAR scatter from the rabbits? They were pickup trucks and SUVs while I was driving a sedan. I'm currently mounting it at the highest possible point on the windshield.
Thanks!
Re: Did I mount too high to pick up LIDAR scatter?
high mount works best for radar detection.
forget about laser, it is very rare even on v1 to detect and your best bet is a jammer to get protection from laser.

a v1 mounted legit newhere will pick up laser but as stated above ur only real defense is a laser jammer
Re: Did I mount too high to pick up LIDAR scatter?
Never count on scatter. It is a highly unusual anomaly, not something to be expected. You're not likely to ever receive it unless the car being targeted is directly inline in-between you and the officer. Scatter is that leftover light that passes through the car's glass and to your V1. Scatter is not a wild ricochet of light that bounces 45 to 90 degrees across the highway to hit you.

Best for radar yes, but I it does pick up laser very well as well, at least my high mounted 3.872 and my 3.863 picked up laser as well.

I've had my V1 miss more laser hits than I have ever picked up scatter. Betting on scatter will only get you a ticket!

Thank you. I know few members on this forum who say they get scatter almost 80 to 90% of the time. It's completely false hope for the newbies. Hell if i had the money I would mount a camera in the car and show you picking up scatter is rare. I drive thru couple speed traps where LEOs use laser and I ocassionaly pick up scatter and sometimes my V1 doesn't even alert.
