Mounting on drivers visor
I was thinking about mounting my escort 8500 on the drivers side visor near the pillar. So its going to be as far left on the windshield as possible. Our main issue around here is LEO driving on the opposite side of highway and turning around.
I figured it would only make sense to mount it far left (it would still be closer to the right side of the road no matter where you mount it in the car) so why not mount it far left to give a better coverage overall?
Anyone think this will reduce my coverage at all, help me or be the same as mounted in the center?
Re: Mounting on drivers visor
It depends on your car's configuration of the A pillar and headliner to be honest.
What kind of car?

I tried that, but it was just not feasible. It prevents you from using your visor, and it's not as intuitive to glance up and left as it is to glance over and right. That said, I honestly cannot imagine that it would make the slightest bit of difference in off axis sensitivity. You're still pointing straight ahead. The only way to make a difference for the scenario you are talking about is to angle your detector off axis, which would compromise your straight-line sensitivity, but is probably worth it when you're driving a divided highway like that.

I just do not want to reduce my coverage by moving it away from the center of the windshield. The problem I have mounting it in the center is about 6 inches of factory dot/tint stuff. I plan to use a visor mount to attach it to the headliner. So I can really mount it anywhere along the headliner that I choose. I just want to avoid the middle due to the dots possibly causing interference (I know that is debatable but I am not willing to take the chance.)
