Re: Question On Radar In NYC
Im not sure about NYC, but in NJ state troopers use X, KA, and Laser. Other NJ cops use every band, so in NJ at least i would not turn off anything. There is also a specific forum for radar usage in different city and states.

Thanks for the info didn't see this forum when I made the post sorry.
Re: Question On Radar In NYC
I think NYPD Highway Patrol likes Ka. Pretty sure they like laser on Staten Island.
NY State Police use Ka.
Laser is creeping up in NJ, especially on the Turnpike.
NJSP use some laser, mostly X band.
Local police use everything except laser, depending on their budget.
Re: Question On Radar In NYC
I don't know how radar could be used in the NYC area. In Chicago, the traffic is way to heavy to be able to use radar and identify cars easily, and New York is a lot bigger than Chicago. I wouldn't want to use anything but laser if I was cop there. Jammers would have to be a must.
Re: Question On Radar In NYC
NJ also uses k band. I think a couple of places on Long Island still use x band radar but NYC is mostly k,ka, and laser.

NYPD is just Ka and laser. So if I was you and I am only driving exclusively in the NYC counties I’d shut off X and K in NYC Area's. The V1 would be sooooo quite. It's pretty much what the others say Staten Island is laser alley, and you will see mostly Ka and some scattered Laser around the other NYC counties.

Nassau county is same Ka and laser.
SuffolkCounty is another story; Sheriffs just took over the highways a few months ago. I see them on the LI Expressway all the time, but most of them don't even have speed detection devises or certifications yet.
So far I have only seen a few scattered Ka I/O shots, and one time at night I caught someone using constant on K band moving, could not see what car it was since it was nighttime. They also just got a brand new charger .
Also if you head out east the Riverhead and the Hampton local Police use K band C/O moving and once in a while I/O k Band.
So if you are in Suffolk County You would have to turn you K band back on to be safe.
Re: Question On Radar In NYC
I see more Highway cops using laser than radar.
