What type of speed detection?

I have a 9500ix. A couple weeks ago in Pasadena TX one of those roadside speed indicator signs showed up on a road I travel everyday on the way to work. I can see that it gives an accurate indication of your speed. The odd thing is I get no alerts of any kind. I don't know a whole lot about detectors but I'm curious...would the sign just be running a "non standard" frequency outside the detection range or what? Anyone know about speed signs?

These signs often tend to suffer from frequency drift. It's frequency has probably drifted outside that of what your 9500ix is looking for.
