Greetings all ......
Just moved back to the states (Miami, Florida) and will be commuting 1 hour each way to work. Needless to say, I need to catch up on all this technology. In Nassau, they have 1 radar gun and it has been used exclusively in 1 place for 8 years.
My first stop is the regional board to find out what is being used in SW Florida these days (specifically on the Turnpike). And then I will be seeking equipment advice.
No laughing but I do have a V1 that was purchased 18 years ago and that's what I am running at present (for the lack there of).

Welcome to the forum. Do you mean Southeast Florida? Also does an 18 year old V1 have Ka? Sounds like its time for an upgrade. You find lots of info for radar detectors. You will also want to research laser jamemrs too.

Hi Bahama Bart, I am from Miami as well. The Police here use both laser and Ka band radar guns. They also do a lot of pacing at night instead of using any speed measurement device. Very difficult to speed at night at here!
Also there are a fair number of plain police cars (volvos, lincolns, the odd lexus, so a keen eye is not enough to keep you from tickets!).

Welcome to the forum, Bahama Bart. Definitely time for an upgrade. I had an old Escort that didn't have Ka or Laser and was caught off guard going over the top of a hill about two months ago in Canada... judging by the LEO he was actively pinging cars... the Escort was silent. Fortunately no ticket since there was quite a bit of traffic. So I upgraded. Good luck!

Yeah, time to put that V1 in the display case! :D
The addition of Ka band and newer radar technologies has pretty much necessitated you upgrade to a new detector, and the V1 is still the way to go. That certainly hasn't changed.
Radar is a bigger problem than laser in most of South Floridia, from what I can see, with Ka band being the major threat. However, laser is still very common, so you should look into a quality jammer ASAP. See the Laser Jammer FAQ for help getting started.
Good luck!
