QT in AZ

Can anyone confirm the use of QT in Arizona? Specifically by the highway patrol?

My understanding of the speed enforcement scene in AZ is that laser is primarily used by motorcycle cops, most of the local police do not carry radar or laser, and the highway patrol primarily uses K, 34.7Ka and 35.5Ka. And of course speed cams up the arse. However, I've heard nothing about QT being used.

Far and away my biggest threat is my commute from Phoenix to Prescott - we go a couple times per month and once you get out of the mobile speed cams on 1-17 near new river, it's all highway patrol and small town (dewey, humboldt, prescott valley, and of course mayer (bastards)...

I'm considering a Redline to give myself as much warning as possible but if we have confirmed use of Q/T, then I'd go V1. I prefer the feature set of the escorts because I grew up with them, so unless QT is used here that's my preference.

so if I understood that correctly, you think most QT is used by motorcycle cops?
That's interesting. In my experience, bike cops use laser and hide in urban settings to truly surprise people...so I guess QT goes right along w/ that MO.

That's interesting. In my experience, bike cops use laser and hide in urban settings to truly surprise people...so I guess QT goes right along w/ that MO.

I wouldn’t necessarily say exclusively, laser would be the #1. The idea is because they will have a hand held unit similar to a laser gun they would use it similarly. QT with a trigger on something like a gun is more likely IMO than a mounted unit on a car. If they use laser allot you may not have any QT at all, but i would be weary if a motorcycle cop with radar. Its too easy for them to do QT.

I almost always see laser on the highways never in cities or rural areas.

Interesting. I'm not familiar w/ the mechanics of a car-mounted radar unit - do they not have a trigger like a handheld?

As for laser on the highway - that's interesting. I've seen that in states where the traffic is highly congested yet moving quickly - I think laser makes it easier to pinpoint 1 person in heavy traffic. Here in AZ most of the congested areas have speedcams to do the work there; out on the open highways there is little congestion so maybe that limits the use of laser.

They do, kind of, little difrent than holding somthing with a handle and a conventional trigger.
IMO a LEO in a car is going to be reading, eating, texting, calling he can and just use C/O or simple I/O as needed. QT is more active speed monitoring and the distances for its accuracy isn’t far ~1/4mi.

The last time I seen it, it was an over the hill trap. The v1 alerted once before I got to the top, but it could have been a visual save. The leo was targeting cars very close to him/ less than 500 ft.
