Jammer emits dangerous infared light while car is off?
Newb question manual says to install the redwire to a 'solid 12v switch', well doesnt that mean that its on even when the car is OFF? I would hope its off when the kids are cleaning the car and accidently looking at the two transievers.
Wouldn't you want to connect it to a "switch 12v", similar to the radio, where it turns on/off determined by the ignition.
Or does it only emit dangerous infared light when you point your portable lazer pocket device / remote controller - where i believe only a camera can see the lights but human eye cant. is this the only time its dangerous or anytime the car is on?
I assume the cops are trained to not point their Lidar at windshields too?
Re: Jammer emits dangerous infared light while car is off?
Which jammer are you installing?
Normally, yea, you want your jammer being connected to a switched source, and attached to that, the ON/OFF switch.
Depending on the jammer, it may or may not produce infrared light when in "standy (on, but not jamming)." AL, Laser Star, LPP, and PASS all "blink" once a second when in standby. Blinder, Laser Interceptor, Laser Mask, Zr3/4 (and most other LED jammers) won't fire when in standby.
As for shooting at windshields, I know I've heard of some LEOs doing that, but most do not, especially since shooting at a windshield makes most radar detectors go off, as well as having a hard time getting a reading.

Yeah, I don't think they are trained not to shoot the windshield as any kind of policy. They simply don't intentionally aim there because it's not easy to get a reading off just a windshield, so there's no point in it. But yeah, every part of the car gets hit eventually.

purchasing the M27 - so its safe to look at it when car is on but not being jammed? Got concerned because i saw a warning label on the "manual" but didnt specify if it emites while on standby. Soppose cant be as powerfull as my lazer eye surgery was, lol.
Kinda reminds me as a kid when your told not to look at the microwave when its on or at the sun or watch TV in the dark.
SideQuestion: does the M27 have a "on" LED light in the car to tell you that its on? For example if you connect the redwire to a "permanent 12volt" (meaning its on 24/7) then the blinder probably has an indicator that you installed it incorrectly cause its on ?
Re: Jammer emits dangerous infared light while car is off?
Definitely wire it to a switched source so it's off when the car is off. You'll increase the life of the jammer and your battery.
Blinders use LEDs so they aren't as "dangerous" per se as a diode-based jammer (which are still rated eye safe). They just put the warnings in there as a CYA (like the warning on irons that say not to iron your clothes while wearing them). The only time you'll harm your eyes is if you stare directly into the head while it's jamming for a period of time, and although it's common sense not to do that, there are still idiots out there who will, hence the need for the warning labels...
I think when they say a "solid 12V switch", they mean one that is "solid" enough to handle the rigors of car use. An automotive rated switch, in other words. (Doesn't the Blinder come with a switch?)
Re: Jammer emits dangerous infared light while car is off?
I guess, technically, if you wired it up, and the LED is on, then you wired it to a constant on wire.
Before going through all that trouble, though, I would just measure with a multimeter before installing/cutting any wires. Shoot, to make it easier, just get an add-a-circuit, and find something that is switched in the fuse box, and hook it up to that.

Re: Jammer emits dangerous infared light while car is off?
Yes you definitely do want to wire it to a switched source. Why? Well because you wont be jamming any LEO's with your car off. Second, you wont have to turn it on and off manually. Third, it will drain your battery.
And those warnings are there so no one can turn around and sue them due to eye damage because they stared directly into the diode for a half an hour while shooting it with a laser gun.

The only thing the Laser Interceptor emits dangerous levels of is WIN!
