Bel 995 impressions ?

Fellas (and fellowettes),

My gal's getting an RD for her son (birthday), wanting to spend less than $300.

She uses (my) RX 65, but I was inclined to recommend the Bel 995.

-It's within budget. (Roy's got what looks to be a very good price on it).
-It seemed to perform ok in the GOL test rounds.
-It can selectively turn off un-used bands (X and K in this area).

I'm a little uneasy about these lower-buck detectors, however.

One of our main threats here is forward-facing photoradar vans. The RX 65, in highway mode, could give about half a block's warning. I wonder how the 995 will compare.

Anyone have opinions about the 995?

I bought the Bel Vector 995 to protect me from the photo radar vans in my area. I have found that the 995 is allmost worthless against photo radar. Typically it will go off 0-150 meters before the photo radar van. :(

Then I upgraded to the V1 and that detector works very well giving me between 350 and 600 meters of warning range. The photo radar vans in my area is operating in the k-band.

One of my friends have an older Vector 995 (Different writing on the top of the detector) and this one works much better than the new Vector 995 detectors but still not as good as the V1.

I know it sounds crasy that the old Vector 995 is better than the new one but I can assure you it is true. At least in the k-band.

Looks like the updated firmware for the V1 causes it to perform worse, in someways, too, if GOL findings are representative.

Yes, that's very helpful for me as a comparison, because while our photo radar vans are using Ka band, I also get a much better warning range with my v1. Probably a length of one city block, at worst.

If she gets that RD, I'm going to have to give the lad a lesson in proper and effective technique!

I like my older v995 but it has the older S7 internals versus the newer M4 internals

Do you find much difference in Ka performance..??

I've owned a few 995's. Always preferred the S7 platform. It works better in curvy, hilly locations. Ka performance was/is good.
