Wisconsin Using Unmarked Minivans ?
I was reading the V1 moment for this month and the guy says he saw a unmarked minivan pulling people over. Anybody from there ever seen this, I find it hard to believe.
"As the van started to pass, V1 tells me the radar is beside me. Wisconsin troopers are using unmarked minivans for traffic enforcement?
Yep. The Bonneville got pulled over about four minutes later. Coming back, the same sneaky mini van was watching the northbound lanes and tagged a Michigan car that blew by me."
Re: Wisconsin Using Unmarked Minivans ?
Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Unmarked pickups are used in plenty of places, why not a minivan?
Re: Wisconsin Using Unmarked Minivans ?
Welcome to the nightmare. Here in BC (Canada), the RCMP use unmarked minivans all the time. We're talking like, late model Dodge caravans with tinted windows... and I'm pretty sure the whole line of caravans comes factory built with tinted windows, since I've never seen one without. The undercover models here are usually white, dark maroon or dark green.
They're really tricky to spot. I don't have my detector yet, but every time I see one in my rear-view mirror, I'm always wondering if I'm getting blasted with Ka.
Here in BC, we have this thing called graduated licensing.... basically you have to take 3 road tests, over a 3 year span, in order to get your full class license with no restrictions (zero alcohol, passenger limit, etc).
Anyway, on your "Learners" and "Novice" stage, by law, you have to display a big colorful magnetic red 'L' or bright green 'N' on the back of your bumper, or in the rear windshield.
I've seen those damn undercover minivans driving around with those markers displayed on the back. Sometimes drivers here get really impatient when they're behind cars marked with those letters, even if they're going the 50kmph (35mph) city speed limit. Many times I've seen people switch to the left lane to pass the minivan at maybe 5 mph over the limit, and they get lit up.
It almost feels like entrapment.
I hate being behind those cars, not because of their speed, but because most of the time, they're inexperienced drivers. They have a tendency to brake hard, weave in the lane, forget to signal, etc etc. But if you take the other lane, there's this grim feeling that once your car gets close enough, they'll neglect to check their blind spot, and there goes your passenger side.
So, I usually stay behind them until someone else comes along in the other lane and passes, and then I follow suit. Sometimes it can take awhile, lol... but better safe than sorry I guess. Most of the time though, the only uniforms in the van are the ones in the backseat that the soccer mom driver is bringing back from the drycleaner.
Sorry for the thread jack :p
But yeah, unmarked minivans. They're a *****.
Re: Wisconsin Using Unmarked Minivans ?
Considering minivans keep on becoming more powerful and most people don't really think of anything when one passes by it makes a great undercover leo mobile

I know what you are talking about and I agree those vans are just deadly. They also use some Chevy Venture vans.
