K-Band from a Train?
There is a road about 5 minutes away from my place that I travel to and from school on. It has train tracks running parallel to it (20 feet away). In the past two weeks, on two separate occasions at night when coming home on this road, I have received weak (level 1 to 2) K-Band warnings when the train approaches me, or is passing... They last only a few seconds, with no LEO in sight.
there is only a subdivision nearby, and I have driven around it with no radar picked up. If it happens once more, and there IS a train in sight - the train has to be the source.
I could draw a picture or google map it to be more specific, but wanted to know if its possible that Trains use K-Band radar, or I picked up this frequency from the train's electronics ???
Please note the following:
- I have passed the same stretch of road during a train passing, with NO alert.
- K-Band IS used by the local cops

I know that farm equipment and I bet trains use k-band for speed monitoring.

I have picked up a weak x at RR crossings.

That is new to me as well. I never thought a train would be broadcasting K Band.

I have received several alerts when trains come through crossings. I know the rear FRED’s and the engineer’s computer (Wilma) do communicate over a mile in distance and have GPS and motion sensors. This may have something to do with the alerts you are receiving.
Trains instead of having a caboose use what is termed a FRED, flashing rear end device / end-of-train device, which can be as simple as a red flashing light to a multi-function sensor with communications to the engineer. Here’s a link on the device,

I didn't do a search but several months ago I posted an answer to this question.
Trains use radar to determine speed and then compare the speed determined by the radar to the speed being reported by conventual means to determine wheel slippage.
