Illinois State Police to beef up patrols around holiday

PESOTUM -- Illinois State Police District 10 personnel will be patrolling highways Wednesday through Sunday in an extra effort to reduce traffic accidents.
District 10 Commander Captain Stuart Shaver said the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) period coincides with the Thanksgiving travel period which begins at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday and continues through 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
According to Shaver, District 10 troopers will be alert for all violations with an emphasis on identifying those which contribute to crash-related fatalities, including impaired driving, speeding and seat belt/child restraint offenses. In addition, District 10 troopers will participate in Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement details, Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols, and Special Traffic Enforcement Patrol details.
Shaver said the ISP has zero tolerance for those who fail to wear seat belts or fail to place their children in child restraint seats. “Our goal is to prevent crash-related injuries and fatalities, ensuring a safe Thanksgiving for everyone,” Shawver said.
