I haven't ever used ssb as a countermeasure. I used to use ssb years to talk to distant stations when conditions were right.
wasent sure if it could be used as a countermeasure.
seems like most of the use of a radio in the car is to stick to 19 and listen for truckers or to ask questions there.
is there a standard channel like 19 on usb or lsb that people hang out on?
how do you like the 959? was thinking about the 979 if ssb was worth it to have in the car
Never really cared to get into the SSB thing. If you're into it as a CM I doubt if you'd ever miss it.
CH 19 rules :D
SSB is USELESS as a counter measure!!!
Truckers hang out on plain old 19! Not upper or lower 19. I tried using SSB on my Galaxy dx949 just to make sure it worked other wise I stay in normal AM mode
I have to agree...
EXCEPT as I noted to another forum member in a PM recently, I got lucky:
As I went back-and-forth almost weekly to see my GF... I ended up befriending a couple of truckers, and I would sometimes hit them up long-range with it... dial each-other in on the 959 freq-counter, and they would literally plow-the-way for miles upon miles in advance.
I had a few advantages:
Again, I made the trip every-week... I would be respectful and report to them what I saw (I would plow the way on regular-19 for them for as long as we had contact). Most importantly: I also know a few truckers (friends) and lastly... I know the CB whole-saler who deals to nearly all the truckers in the area.
I think it happened all of 2 or 3 times, but it does work.
I aree though: basically with everyone it will be completely useless as a countermeasure... and I would never suggest straying off of 19 (unless the locals for some reason hit up 17/21 or the like). Like I said, this was a select few times...
I mean unless one gets entertainment out of electro-duck-noises... then they might want to use SSB.
I've heard that SSB is often used to set up "intimate-male encounters" at rest areas and such.
At least that's what I heard... Wouldn't know much about it...
Seriously... Just what I heard...
:D
