Whistler se series rd users
For all of you Whistler SE series RD users out there; I would like to know the following:
Which SE model do you use and why and how/where do you have it mounted?
I use the XTR695SE because I like the detection ability, the display, and the compass feature. It is great for Ka, especially I/O Ka which is prevalent in my area. I have it mounted over the rear virew mirror.
I also have a PRO78SE that I use sometimes. I like the blue LED display. Seems to detect the same as the 695SE.
In my opinion, for the money, the SE RD are good RDs.
Thanks.
Re: Whistler se series rd users
I use both the xtr-695 and 78SE in two vehicles of mine.
Although i like the compass and battery voltmeter features of the 695, i personally don't care for that LCD display. Just impossible to see in direct daylight.
The 78SE is my SE of choice.
Also thinking about replacing the xtr-695 with a 690SE, keeping the 695 as a backup.
I have the 78SE mounted on the dashboard of my Jeep with a cool push button release easy-in/out docking mount i fabricated. The RD sits about 6" or so above the wipers. If anyone is interested, i can take some pics and post them.
For my car, i use the factory suction cup mount on the windshield located about 4" above the dash on the driver's side lower corner. Not the ideal place for performance, but i don't necessarily like advertising that i'm using a RDer.
I'm in the process of designing a docking mount for the car but its a little more trickier in that the dashboard has a radical slope to it. Thinking about fabricating a mount which clamps or fastens to the RV mirror.

I have the Whistler Pro 78SE and have it mounted high on my windshield:

We have similar RD tastes.
I actually like the display on the 695SE. Mounted high, I have no problem seeing it.
I chose the 78SE over the 690SE because I prefer blue displays over red. I can see blue better.
One thing you migh want to try on a slanted dash is a large rubber door stop. Velcro it to the dash, then velcro the RD to the stopper. Doesn't loo too bad either.

I have the Whistler Pro78 SE, a Pro78 and XTR695. I like the intense blue display of the Pro 78 and the Pro 78 SE. I find the RSID and LSID to be very useful features. I have the Pro 78 SE dash mounted, it works well for me. I have used the XTR695 for several months prior to getting the 78 SE. I finally decided that I didn't really like the LCD display, very difficult to see. The 78 SE equals my RX65 for KA detection in normal mode on 34.7. The RX65 is about 1 to 2 seconds faster than the 78 SE when configured in USA mode at 60 mph for 34.7 CO.
I leave the Pro78 SE in KA max mode all the time.

I think the Whistler just wasn't sensitive enough to pick up the signal. This isn't the first time it has missed a forward facing signal.

I experienced piss poor forward facing with my 690se one time I passed a leo and only got a 1 second Ka1 blip. I thought aww hell no so I pulled the detector off the mount and turned it around and what do you know almost full strength Ka 34.7:o
