Vertical Bracket for the V1
i just saw an auction on 3bay about a Vertical bracket for the V1
this is part of what it says:
"The main point of the vertical mount is to reduce false alarms significantly, and to be able to sense / detect those vertically polarized radar units more effectively what work with X, K, Ka,and Ku band and operate on low transmitting performance.
If the detector is mounted vertically, than we can reduced the number of false alarms significantly. When passing by supermarkets, fuel stations or any kind of automated doors you could have also experienced plenty of false alarms by your detector. "
is this something true or is just some random mount they are selling just to naive people??

It seems to me that if a 90 degree rotation of a V1 would increase performance, Valentine would have figured that out a long time ago and adjusted its design accordingly.
I would be skeptical of advertising claims made on eBay.

Certain photoradar units are vertically polarised so it increases performance for those situations. I don't think they're used in the US though.

Just a bad idea... Look at the GOL results... If i were you stick to horizontal and as level as possible.

The vertical mount would help with the low power K band photo units that are chewing up radar detector users in AZ, CA and a few other states. The problem is that running your detector vertical hinders sensitivity dramatically otherwise.
Ka 35.5 is incredibly dangerous as is without having a V1 mounted vertically. It would probably leave you with little or no warning whatsoever.

I think this is for SpeedCams used outside of the US, as others have mentioned.
Someone posted a while back about how these are detected much better vertically.
But yeah, don't go mounting vertically for U.S. use. The reason it doesn't alert to supermarkets etc as they claim is because it isnt as sensitive that way.
No one has any reason to do this unless they live in a country where the cameras shoot vertically polarized radar.... though it would significantly hinder performance against real LEOs unless they shoot vertically polarized radar as well.

i kind of figure this was not really a useful mounting, but i've seen this mounting on ebay a lot, so i was curious about this, i just hardwire my V1 and i have no intentions of redo it, I'll post pictures soon. thanks everyone for the postings and the opinions! The only reason I'd run a vertical mount is if i had a 2nd v1 (which was placed inside a bumper or something). There is an advantage to running vertical mount, but its very situational.
