Re: Rear Laser Port Question
Yes, rear laser shots are rare though. Remember a laser alert is useless other than as a ticket notifier.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
Got it, thanks for the quick reply. For now I will experiment with RD only and look into adding laser jammer after gaining some experience with the RD.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
Even the best rear laser sensors fail at least 90% of the time to a rear laser shot, especially since rear shots are almost always point blank and off-axis. How to position your STi(which is poor at detecting laser in optimal circumstances) for detecting rear laser shots, is worth absolutely no time or effort. Position your STi so that it best does the job that it is designed to do, which is to detect radar. Very good rear jammers are your only hope to defend yourself against a rear laser shot.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
Also, the rear laser ports on all Belscorts are next to useless. They're tiny and on top near the front of the detector, meaning the odds of it picking up a real rear laser shot is next to non-existent, and then only if the detector is windshield mounted. If it's on the visor, forget it.
The only detector that does rear laser right is the V1. But like djrams80 said, they're useless for saving your wallet. If the highway robbers shoot you in the rear, you need a rear jammer.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
+1. If you really want to get the detection for laser from the rear turn the detector upside down and on the visor. That is the only way you might get the laser detection.
Oh one more thing you could get laser scatter from the front, for cars ahead of you i.e. if you are lucky.
IMHO laser is the deadlest of all detection methods.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
All the rear sensor is, is a light tube, does almost nothing.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
That's a lot of good information that I did not know when I ordered my RD. Although it wouldn't have made a difference as I guess all RDs do the same for laser which is no protection. I guess RD as the name suggests is only for radar and is more of a gimmick when it comes to laser. For laser protection, laser jammers appear to be the only solution.
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
I wish all RD manufacturer's, with the exception of V1, would do away with those useless things, it's almost like believing there's 12 bands of radar....
Re: Rear Laser Port Question
I was thinking about this and wondered how you would know if there was a rear laser detection.
Where I mount my STi I do not think there is a chance at all any rear shot would cause an alert.
Is there a different notification for a rear shot? I do not think there is and will shoot mine with the LA when I get home.
How would you even tell if it is from the rear- Personally I would think it was a frontal shot unless I was informed by the officer or saw the LEO and would be pissed that my LPP and Sti-R did not alert.
The more I think about this the more useless it appears......even if it did alert I would most likely be toast.
