I've had a Whislter 975 for gosh, at least 5-6 years now. It's starting to crap out so i came hear and found that the Pro 58 was best for me. How much of an improvment will i notice. I see that the dectector technology has gotten a lot better. I'm getting it in the mail today, can't wait!
oh, and i see that it comes with a "hardwire kit". What exactly is that for?

I dont much about the 975 But i take it being atleast 5-6 years old, you are very much over due for a new RD. The Pro - 58 is a excellent buy for the money. Make sure you unerstand what I am saying, Radar Roy called it "The best bang for buck!" Its not the greatest detector but it does pretty good. I considered buying this detector till i was offered the bel vector 985, its a older detector not by much tho only about a year give or take a couple of months, but if it had not been for the bell id would have bought the whistler. If you read the fourm alot you will see that most people were surprised about the pro 58 at the GOL testing.

The "harwire kit" is a cord like the cig plug but you plug it in to you battery but you have a fuse protecting you RD. Or it plugs in to your fuse box. Its so you can have a wire always connected and not taking up your cig plug. or you are hiding your detector it helps to have it hard wired.
just depends on what you want.

i checked that webiste. Call me a retard but don't understand how it's measured. Does the Pro-58 suck or is it ok. I know it's not the in Bel-Escort class. But is it ok for $$$ I got it for $85 I can't spend hundreds of dollars on a RD.

My objective was to get the best dectector for least amount of money. I don't mind the false pickups. I'd rather it detect everything than nothing at all. Thanks for the input.

I've got the Pro-73 (which is the same as the Pro-58 except for the display) and so does my friend. The detector has decent detection range, I saw this somewhere else in this forum a long time ago:
"The top 3 detectors are 5x the price, but are they 5x as good? No."
I can't remember who said that unfortunently, some searching would find it, anyways...
The key thing to remember is to combine the radar detector with some laser protection, which is the biggest problem. Finding X, K, and Ka won't be a problem for the most part, unless you get one of those $30 detectors from Wal Mart... which you didn't. Try a Lasershield and some Veil to go with that Pro 58 and I think you'll be very happy.
