Redline: Power cord, polarity, and QT "issues"
Thinking about selling my Valentine One and picking up a Redline. Too bad it doesn't come in blue.
Two questions. First: I've got a direct-wire kit that came with a V1 (iirc) which has always worked for powering my Valentine as well as an 8500 / 8500 x50 I had at some point or another. Does the Redline use the same style connector with the same polarity? Would like to avoid having to re-route / splice another direct-wire kit if possible; it's kind of a hassle in my car.
And while I've read through many an archived Redline thread here on the forum, I haven't come across much that definitively says that QT is its Achilles' heel. I'm sure you guys know more than I do -- what's the story there?

The power cord for the V1 will work.
As for QT its an issue with all Escorts, however how much and if its an issue in your area is the real question.

The Redline performs horribly against QT. Plain and simple. However, this doesn't mean the Redline performs horribly against Instant-On. They are the same. QT is less than one second trigger pulls:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0OOhPcHdPc]YouTube - Escort 9500ci and V1 3.813 vs. Moving I/O Ka 34.7[/ame]
While I/O is more than one second trigger pulls:

So like CJR238 said, it all depends on if QT is used in your area. Bottom line: the Redline is more sensitive (longer alert distances) than the V1 but the V1 is more reactive (picks up everything including those lightning quick QT shots). Where are you located?

Hi, why do you want to switch to the Redline? Did you not have a good experience with the V1.
The reason I ask is because I have a Redline now, HOWEVER, 2 days ago I ordered a Valentine One. :-)
I want to try out the Valentine One for the 30 days and see how it really compares to the Redline's Performance.

My reason is, well, twofold: I, like most of us who like toys, enjoy having the latest and greatest if possible.
But the bigger reason is that I just can't leave well enough alone. When I tried the 8500 x50 last, I did so because I preferred the blue display, love having a frequency counter available, and generally like Escort products. The fact that the V1 kicks its ass (or is at least a significantly better performer -- it's all relative) is largely why I couldn't make myself stay with it. The Redline, best I can tell, is what I wanted in the 8500 x50, save for a blue display.
As far as my location -- I'm in Texas. Pretty sure I've read on here that the Texas DPS does resort to QT from time to time; I'm just not sure how much of a legitimate threat that is (although that first video Snoopy posted is pretty discouraging). Your thoughts?

V1 to be safe, and save your money for a 9500ci so you can run them both.

About 90% of the time, I've seen TX DPS use I/O Ka 34.7 and both of my RDs do just fine. However, I sometimes run into QT and the 9500ci will struggle. I personally think the V1 is the best RD to use against TX DPS because it not only picks up everything (QT, I/O) but it also gives you more info on what is going on; the V1's arrows are invaluable IMO. From what I have observed, TX DPS likes to manipulate their I/O in a variety of ways. Sometimes they like to blitz down the highway or on feeder roads and try to catch speeders from behind with I/O. The V1 beats the Redline against rear radar as well.
What part of Texas are you from?

You will have to change your username, LOL.
I've tried the V1 twice and came back to the Escorts both times. If they would put some effort into the thing it would be worthwhile, but it's a stagnant, dated product.

I do love the features of the Redline, and it does not false alert as much as the V1, which can get real annoying at times. I am only afraid of the QT mode...I think Redline can perform just as well as a V1 in QT detection IF Escort updates there Software...
I just read Escort RedLine versus Valentine One: Comparison Test and Review. and the Redline seemed to perform superior to the Redline.
Regardless, I will give the V1 a try for the 30 days and see how much I like it as a driver. I travel quite a bit for business so I will be able to log plenty of road time.
Re: Redline: Power cord, polarity, and QT "issues"
I agree with the posters above, the QT "problem" is only a "problem" if QT is in use in your area. Around here, I/O is used, C/O is used, but I have yet to ever see QT. Most, if not almost all, cars around here either have no detector or a Cobra. So it's not like LEOs have anything to fear.
That being said, the Redline, in my use, has proven to me to be much MORE sensitive than ANY other detector. So my main concern, I/O is covered.
